Cabbie stabbed wife after 'visit ban lifted', court hears

A TAXI driver stabbed his wife to death just days after his second arrest for allegedly abusing her, a court has been told.

Sabina Akhtar was murdered by Malik Mannan within five days of police cancelling bail conditions which banned him from contacting her, Manchester Crown Court heard.

Mr Mannan had been arrested for defying those conditions - imposed after Sabina told police she had been attacked by him as many as 25 times, the jury heard.

Sabina, 26, the mother of their three-year-old son, was found dead at the family home in Charlton Road, Levenshulme.

She died from a single stab wound to her chest which penetrated her heart. Mr Mannan, 36, of Meldon Road, Longsight, denies murder, claiming he acted in self-defence.

Sabina, from Bangladesh, had an arranged marriage with Mr Mannan, who was divorced, the court heard.

She became upset when she found he was having an affair with a woman she called his `other wife' and with whom Mr Mannan had two young children, the jury was told.

But Sabina decided to `suffer in silence' and stay with him.

After marrying in Bangladesh in 2003, Sabina learned of the affair in 2005.

Despite assurances it was over, Mr Mannan kept seein the woman, said prosecutor Paul Reid.
He said Mr Mannan subjected Sabina to a catalogue of threats and attacks - and last July she called police. But `owing to her confusion and language difficulties, no formal complaint was recorded'.

The next day, Mr Mannan slapped their son and he burned the marriage certificate, the jury was told.

The court heard he grabbed Sabina's throat and ordered her to read passages from the Koran. "This is your final hour," he is alleged to have told her.

The jury was also told he said to Sabina: "I am going to get a knife and when I return I am going to slaughter you."

Sabina made a second complaint to police and Mr Mannon was arrested that day and later released on bail, on condition he did not approach his wife or go to their home.

But the Crown says he continued to harass Sabina and was arrested on September 7 for defying his bail conditions.

The jury was told Mr Mannan was arrested after he put his hand through the letter box and shouted to Sabina to open the door.

After he was released without charge and his bail conditions cancelled, the court heard he sent a text to Sabina boasting: "I am a free man since 1.30. Case file closed. Isn't it great?"

Mr Mannan's family told police on September 12 they hadn't heard from him, so officers broke into Sabina's home and found her dead.

This is what happens in the muslim world. A man is superior to a woman. This is stated in the koran. A muslim man is also able to marry upto four women. They do not have to agree to this either. I would like to know why it seems that muslim men are so violent? Could it be that they are spoiled babies? That they are men and should be given anything they want from a woman? Russian police: fanatics kill bowling alley owner

ROSTOV-ON-DON, Russia: Police in the violence-plagued Russian republic of Ingushetia say a bowling alley owner was shot to death by suspected Islamic extremists who oppose games and some other forms of entertainment.

Ingushetia, a predominantly Muslim region, sees near-daily attacks or clashes that authorities blame on insurgents inspired by the years of separatist fighting in neighboring Chechnya.

The Ingush Interior Ministry said the Wednesday night killing in the town of Karabulak was believed to be the work of "fanatics" who have also attacked owners of other entertainment facilities in recent months.

Also Thursday, the ministry said police killed three suspected militants who had stored a large arsenal at a sheep farm.

Appeal by brother of Afghan journalist convicted of saying that men and women are equal

MILAN – Yaqub Perwiz Kambakhsh, 28, is in Italy to draw attention to the plight of his brother, an Afghan journalist sentenced to 20 years in prison for asserting that women have the same rights as men. “Italy has a moral duty to Afghanistan. Since the 2001 war, Italy has been committed to financing the reconstruction of the Afghan judicial system, at a cost of tens of millions of dollars. Why does it do nothing to halt this injustice inflicted on Sayed?” he demands.

It all began in 2007, when the 23-year-old Sayed, a journalist working for Mazar El Sharif-based media in the north of the country, claimed provocatively on his blog that “extremist mullahs” were misinterpreting the Koran. He wondered why, if Islam allows a man to take four wives, a woman can’t have four husbands. Sayed is an obscure provincial reporter but his words caused deep shock in an Afghanistan in the throes of religious restoration and a wholesale return to tradition. Sayed was arrested, charged with blasphemy and on 27 October 2007 he was sentenced to death. At that point, international humanitarian associations stepped in and media around the world picked up the story. The Afghan president Hamid Karzai was even asked to intervene. But the president proved reluctant. “He can’t speak out personally on behalf of the journalist. Karzai is struggling and losing consensus. He’s afraid he won’t win the presidential elections scheduled for late August 2009. He needs the Pashtun vote and the support of religious circles. He might say something in defence of Sayed, but only after the election”, explain well-informed observers. The compromise was to commute the death penalty to imprisonment, which was done on 1 October 2008, when Sayed’s sentence was converted to 20 years in jail.

ROME, FEBRUARY 26 - Fierce controversy has erupted in the Emirates over a book about the secrets of sex within marriage written by Wedad Lootah, a female lawyer who works on matrimonial cases at the court in Dubai. The book which came out about a month ago, includes several chapters on marriage within Islam, Islamic law on the issues of co-habiting and sex, and possible solutions to sexual problems. Arab News reports that it is mainly men who are against the book, maintaining that issues of this nature should not be discussed publicly. Some of the detractors have even gone so far as to accuse the author of being an infidel and sinner for writing the book. Supporters however say that there is a great need for published information on the issues and that until know Arab society has not wanted to recognize problems arising from ignorance in sexual matters. Lootah, who wears the Muslim veil, does not seem too surprised by the criticisms, and maintains that she based the book on Islamic sources, stressing that it was even approved by the mufti of Dubai. The book was suggested by her own six years of experience working on divorce cases, and from the knowledge that many of these cases come about because of a lack of preparation for couples in the matter. The men are against it because women are not supposed to be in charge of their own bodies. They are the property of their husbands. I have seen many quotes from imams stating that women should drop whatever they are doing to sexually please their husbands anytime he demands sex. It is in the koran. Truth is no defense: Muslim Congressman expresses "concern and disappointment" with Senator's decision to show Fitna

Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN), whose recent Hajj was paid for by a Muslim Brotherhood front group, is unhappy that Senator John Kyl (R-AZ) sponsored a showing of Geert Wilders's film Fitna at The Capitol yesterday. Yet he does not, of course, explain how anything in the film is inaccurate. And he cannot, because the film is accurate.

WASHINGTON - February 26 - Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN) took issue with the screening of a film by the controversial Dutch Parliamentarian, Geert Wilders, in the United States Capitol. The film being screened, "Fitna", is said to compare Islamic terrorism to Nazism. The screening is sponsored by Senator John Kyl (R-AZ).

Yes, Islamic terrorism is much more cuddly than Nazism, eh? Aside from this absurdity there is the nagging problem that neither Ellison nor anyone else who is upset about Fitna ever addresses: the fact that it depicts only the Qur'an and the words of Islamic jihadists themselves. If it is hateful, it is because they are hateful.

"I am a strong an advocate of First Amendment free speech. However, this is not about free speech, but rather an issue of propriety, timing and venue," Ellison said. "Senator Kyl has every right to host anyone he chooses, however it becomes a question of propriety to use the United States Capitol as a venue for the condemnation of an entire religion," Ellison said.

Then it is about free speech after all, isn't it? In the first place, Fitna doesn't condemn "an entire religion," but even if it did, why isn't Senator Kyl free to show such a piece in any venue he chooses?

Mr. Wilders was denied entry by the British government because of his extremist views. A British Home Office spokesman stated: "The government opposes extremism in all its forms." The Dutch government has disavowed Mr. Wilders visit to this country and believes the release of this film "serves no purpose other than to cause offence."

Now if only the Dutch government would say the same thing about the jihadists in the Netherlands.

According to the London Telegraph, Wilders has stated that the Qu'ran should be banned.

This is the most common charge made against Wilders -- that he is inconsistent. Here is a full answer.

Ellison further stated, "At a time when President Obama has said to the Muslim world, ‘We are ready to initiate a new partnership based on mutual respect and mutual interest,' the showing of a film that denigrates the faith of 1.4 billion of the world's citizens does not foster mutual respect or mutual interest.

Then let the Islamic jihadists stop denigrating their own faith by acting in the way the film depicts -- and when has Ellison expressed the same kind of indignation about that as he directs here against Wilders?

I have a copy of Fitna. It just shows the verses in the koran, the terrorist training manual, with videos of muslim leaders preaching hate. These muslims are proclaiming that islam will rule the world and that they will take it by force. There is nothing in the video that is made up. It is all their own words.

New Jersey public school accommodates Muslim prayer

There is no problem with this as long as non-Muslim students are accorded the same privileges. However, the involvement of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas funding case and an organization that has had several of its officials convicted of terrorism-related offenses, is a red flag, and suggests that this effort is part of the larger effort by Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups to assert a more visible presence for Islam in American public life, and pushing for accommodation of Islamic law wherever Islamic law and American law conflict.

WAYNE — Four students knelt on a classroom floor during lunch at the Albert Payson Terhune Elementary School today and performed the afternoon Muslim prayer ritual.

It was the first time the students had prayed in the school during school hours. And it may end a controversy over what arrangement the district should make to ensure the children’s constitutionally protected right to exercise their religion during school hours.

School parent Rola Awwad has been seeking a private place for her 10-year-old son, Adam, to pray in school since the fall. The district offered to let him pray at recess — either outside or in classroom while his classmates are there. At first, Awwad called the offer “unacceptable,” and the situation attracted attention from Muslim advocates who suggested bringing the issue to the state for resolution.

I want to know where the ACLU is. Why are they not screaming separation of church and state. If this was a christian group that wanted to pray in a public school, you damned well the ACLU would have lawyers all over this. Why the double standard?

Al-Qaeda top dog: "Islam is the only way to escape from the economic crisis"

This is not a new theme. In Milestones, written in the 1960s, the renowned jihad theorist and popularizer Sayyid Qutb recommended Islamic law as the viable alternative to what he termed the failed ideologies of capitalism and Communism. Here, then, is yet another aspect of the jihadists' ideological appeal that is going unanswered by the West, because Western officials are constrained to pretend that Islam contains no political program in the first place.

Dubai, 26 Feb. (Aki) - A new video purportedly from Al-Qaeda criticises the German government for squandering taxpayers' money on troops stationed in Afghanistan. The video, which has been posted to jihadist websites, urges Germany to renounce capitalism and embrace Islam to escape economic recession.

The video shows a still image of a German citizen turned Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighter in Afghanistan, who calls himself Abu Talha. He delivers a 44-minute message in German with Arabic subtitles.

"Where are the German philosophers and economists, now that economic crisis besets us?" Abu Talha asks in the message.

"And what has happened to all the taxpayers' money? Much of it has been spent on keeping our soldiers here in Afghanistan," the message continues.

Abu Taba talks at length about Islamic finance and its prohibition of interest ('ribah' in Arabic), a central concept of western capitalism.

"After the end of communism, everyone in Germany believed that capitalism was the answer. But what I am saying to you is that Islam is the only way to escape from the economic crisis," he says....

Of course islam is the answer. It is always the answer. I for one do not want any type of sharia banking system in the USA. But alas, my bank, Bank America, is already looking into this.

Reality show contestant calls his shoe 'Mohammed', angering Israel's Arabs

A contestant on Israel's version of the hit reality show "Survivor" has sparked outrage among the country's Arab population for naming his shoe "Mohammed" while mocking a former contestant.

The incident comes a few days after Prime Minister Ehud Olmert issued a public apology for a skit on another of the shows on Channel 10 television, in which a late night TV host joked that Jesus had been too fat to walk on water and that his mother Mary had not been a virgin.

A website affiliated with Channel 10, Nana10, carried a clip from the flagship show in which contestant Natan Beshevkin can be seen referring to his shoes as "Nasrin" and "Mohammed." Nasrin was the name of an Israeli Arab contestant who was voted off early in the season, and who had clashed repeatedly on the show with Beshevkin.

In earlier episodes, Beshevkin, who lives on the settlement of Nili and served as a Border Police officer, was shown taunting Nasrin in Arabic. In the episode where the Haifa resident was voted off, Beshevkin told the show's "tribal council", that to him, Arabs were "the people who threw rocks at me when I was riding my bike as a kid."

The Nana10 clip has been linked on Israeli Arab websites, and printed in Arab newspapers, drawing harsh responses from Israel's Arab and Islamic community leaders.

Laemaker Sheikh Ibrahim Tzarzur called the clip a "degrading and ugly campaign" against the Prophet Mohammed. He accused Channel 10 of organizing a campaign against Islam and Christianity and of "playing with fire."

I love this guy. He names his shoe mohammed. He is great. Now the religion of perpetual outrage is all up in arms. I am now going to call my shoes allah and mohammed.

U.K.: Thousands of Muslim men using welfare system to support multiple wives

For that matter, how many traditional, monogamous couples and their children in Britain are suffering because of the recession while their government hemorrhages money to reward illegal behavior?

He cut a smart figure in his grey suit and crisply ironed shirt. The 6ft tall Somalian bowed to the judge, calling him 'Sir', before begging for his wife, Fatima, and their teenage son to be allowed to stay in Britain.

Fatima, with a black khimar veil covering her hair and shoulders, sat quietly next to her husband.

In her late 30s and wearing open sandals, she lowered her dark eyes as the details of the unconventional life she and her husband, Abdi, led in the West London suburb of Shepherd's Bush unfolded at a busy immigration court.

The judge listened in silence. Perhaps he knew from past experience what was coming next. Abdi went on to reveal that Fatima was not his only wife.

Indeed, he was a self-confessed bigamist who had a second, much younger wife and a 13-year-old daughter by her. They both lived nearby.

'I visit them regularly,' said Abdi, 51, who arrived in Britain in the 1990s and works in an old people's home. 'I have done nothing wrong. In Somalia, it is normal to have two wives - even three or four. Fatima is still my wife and she should not be deported.'

He was unable to produce wedding certificates or valid official documents to prove where, or when, he had married both women, therefore raising questions over the validity of the unions, under either Somali or British law.

Yet his story, unravelling at an ordinary weekday hearing at Taylor House, an asylum appeals' centre in North London, is just one example of the growing phenomenon of multiple marriage in Britain.

Officially, such unions are punishable by up to seven years in prison. They were first declared illegal in England and Wales in 1604, when the Parliament of James I took action to restrain 'evil persons' marrying more than one wife. Parliament ruled that anyone found guilty of the crime would be sentenced to death.

In the four centuries since, bigamy (having two wives) and polygamy (more than two) has been frowned on by the state, the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church.

Yet it is clear that officialdom is turning a blind eye to such marriages.

A recent review by four Government departments - the Treasury, the Work and Pensions Department, the Inland Revenue and the Home Office - has concluded that 1,000 men in the United Kingdom are now polygamists, although some say the figure is higher.

What is more, the review found, a Muslim man can claim state support of more than £10,000 a year to keep his wives, if the wedding took place in one of those countries where polygamy is commonplace, such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia and across huge tracts of Africa.

That's right. The U.K. does recognize polygamous unions if the wedding was performed in a country where polygamy is legal.

For example, a man can receive &£92.80 a week in income support for wife number one, and a further £33.65p for each of his subsequent spouses.

Therefore, if he has four wives - the maximum permitted under Islamic teachings - he can claim nearly £800 a month from the British taxpayer.

Controversially, a polygamist is also entitled to more generous housing benefits and bigger council houses to reflect the large size of his family. He is also able to claim £1,000 a year in child benefit for each of his growing brood.

The Government insists that polygamy has declined in Britain since the 1988 Immigration Act, which made it harder for men to bring second, third or fourth wives to the UK.

However, it's little wonder that critics claim our generosity simply encourages more Muslim men to keep several spouses. Supporters of polygamy claim the Koran states unequivocally that a Muslim man can marry up to four women so long as he treats them equally.

But the Taxpayers' Alliance, a lobby group, has complained: 'Polygamy is not officially condoned here, so why should British taxpayers have to pay for extra benefits for men to have two, three or four wives?' ...

This is more of muslims being more equal under the law than the kafirs. And this is the kafir's own laws that are allowing this to happen. I have a bad feeling that since the UN has passed its new blasphemy decree that this may happen in the US.

Once again, a theory that attempts to explain away the obvious nexus between Islamic teachings and violence in the name of Islam simply puts a spotlight on the elephant in the room: The matter of where all these "extremists" keep coming from, and how resilient their "misunderstanding" of the Religion of Peace continues to be. "Young Muslims at the mercy of extremists because of out-of-touch Imams."

Mosques dominated by elderly foreign clerics are leaving young Muslims at the mercy of extremists, a study has found.

The Quilliam Foundation, an Islamic think tank, has found that 97 per cent of imams in Britain's mosques are from overseas, although the majority of Muslims in Britain were born in the UK.

The study also found that forty-four per cent of mosques do not hold their sermons at the main Friday prayers in English.

Nearly half of Britain's mosques do not have facilities for women, "depriving half the community of access to public spaces," the study said.

It added: "Foreign imams, poorly paid and with limited proficiency in English, are ill-equipped to navigate Britain's complex, liberal and multi-faith society.

Mideast Narratives Have Changed Over Time

Jerusalem — During the course of the 20th century, and especially in the years since the 1967 Six Day War, there has been a dramatic change in the academic and popular historiography of the Middle East.

The traditional narratives have been supplanted by new and fundamentally different and revisionist ways of looking at the region and its conflicts.

A case in point: In 1977, PLO executive committee member Zahir Muhsein told the Dutch newspaper Trouw that “The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity.

”In reality, today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct “Palestinian people” to oppose Zionism.

In actuality, during the period of time in which Judea/Palestine was under the yoke of Ottoman imperialism, the dominant national identification of the “Palestinian Arabs,” a group of scattered peasants (fellahin in Arabic), was that of members of the Arab people, and more specifically as residents of greater Syria.

Palestinian nationalism as such did not exist. There has never been an independent Palestinian state, nor has Jerusalem ever been the capital of an independent Arab polity.

These facts, while undeniably true, do not in any way form the basis for modern thought and diplomatic practice in regards to Israel and its long-running conflict with its Arab neighbors.

Though Arab governments in a spirit of Pan-Arabism founded the PLO, the acknowledged historical chronology relegates such inconvenient facts to the dustbin.

Instead, fiction assumes the realm of fact while charges of racism are leveled against anyone who denies the veracity of “Palestinian claims.”

Instead of the Palestinians being perceived as a group of immigrants from various Arab states that have only recently coalesced into a semi-unified community, they are acknowledged as a group deserving of equal rights to the historical Jewish homeland.

It is to combat these myths that Professor Steven Carol has published his new book, Middle East Rules of Thumb (iUniverse 2008). Professor Carol examines the underlying assumptions behind popular support for the “Palestinian” cause, and the policy ramifications of such ideas.

A good example of this would be his treatment of the Arab-Israeli conflict as the sole source of Middle East instability. It has been contended, by both the Arabs and the international community, that the underlying problem in the region is Israeli intransigence and that a negotiated peace with the “Palestinians” would lead to a better climate for economic growth and the spread of democratic values.

However, in the spirit of Josef Joffe (see “A World Without Israel,” Foreign Policy, 2005 http://tinyurl.com/atltvk), Dr. Carol has compiled a list, chart, six pages in length, that lists the various religious, national and ethnic conflicts in the Arab/Muslim world that predate Israeli independence in their root causes, or, having begun since the inception of the Zionist enterprise, still have no connection to the settlement of Jews in their ancestral homeland. Dr. Carol does the general public a great service in providing historical, religious and political context to what one sees every day in the newspapers.

The book is written in a light and breezy style, making it easy to read. This is quite an accomplishment, given the subject matter.

As a companion to such books as Myths and Facts or From Time Immemorial, rather than a self-contained work in and of itself, Middle East Rules of Thumb proves itself to be a both a highly entertaining read and a good source of information.

Having taught at such schools as Adelphi University and Long Island University, written previous scholarly and popular works and consulted for radio, Dr. Carol certainly knows his subject material and is familiar with writing for a popular audience. Dr. Carol supplements the main body of his work with generous and well-written appendixes that are both entertaining and informative.

There is no such thing as a palastinian. This is all made up by the arab muslims. They want a state for people that never had one. Why? Because they cannot allow a Jewish political state in the middle east. Jews are supposed to be dhimmis and cannot preside over muslims. Well, that is what the koran says anyway.

Court: ‘No Arabs – No Terror’ Bumper Sticker is Incitement

(IsraelNN.com) A Jerusalem judge handed down a conviction Tuesday against Neria Ofan, a pro-Land of Israel activist from Shomron (Samaria), for driving a car that sported a bumper sticker with the slogan “no Arabs – no terror.”

The Attorney General decided in 2002 that the slogan constituted incitement to racism and was therefore a criminal offense.

The slogan “no Arabs – no terror” was coined by nationalists after the start of the massive terror wave which swept Israel from late September 2000 onwards.

“The call ‘no Arabs – no terror’ is tainted with racism,” Judge Shulamit Dotan determined, “because it makes a connection between the entire Arab populace, without any differentiation among its members, and the execution of terror acts. It thus shows hostility and enmity toward an entire populace, only because of its national-ethnic origin.”

“The slogan also suggests a solution to the ‘problem,’” Judge Dotan went on to say, “in the form of collective punishment of the Arab population by making it disappear, either by expulsion of by other means, which the reader need only imagine, as long as the country remains ‘clean’ of Arabs.”

Acts of incitement to racism, the judge ruled, “connect between racist ideas and their execution through violent offenses.”

This is just so wrong. The statement is true. If there were no arabs in Israel there would be no terror attacks. The solution is to get rid of the arabs. This judge would fit right in with judges in California.

MIRANSHAH: The Taliban in Waziristan announced forming a ‘Shura Ittehadul Mujahideen’ (Council of United Mujahideen) on Sunday to wage jihad ‘in an organised manner’.

They want to stop us from killing innocent people? Maybe they should have thought about that before they blew up the WTC and the Pentagon.

Malaysia: Constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion "doesn't apply" to Muslims who want to leave Islam

Why? Muslims in Malaysia are subject to sharia law. None of those secular shenanigans apply. It is an instructive case for Western countries pondering or already embarking down the slippery slope of granting legal legitimacy to sharia rulings within their borders: Are constitutional liberties really preserved when an "alternative" system does not guarantee freedom of conscience and other freedoms unequivocally?

The question is valid even when sharia is not as officially compulsory as it is in Malaysia: Social and familial pressures are just as likely to make the idea of the "choice" of systems a farce and work against the people most in need of the legal protections of the non-sharia system.

FREEDOM of religion as stated in Article 11 (1) of the Federal Constitution does not cover Muslims who wish to convert at any time.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said Muslims who wish to renounce the religion would need to obtain an order or declaration from the Syariah Court, which has the jurisdiction under state Enactments of Islam.

“The judgment in the case states clearly that a Muslim cannot renounce the religion as he wishes. If such freedom is given to Muslims, this will affect the status of Islam as the official religion, as stated in the Federal Constitution,” he said.

Replying to Zulkifli Noordin (PKR – Kulim Bandar Baru), he said Phrase 4 of Article 11 prohibited non-Muslims from spreading other religions to Muslims.

Elections for vacant seats in the House of Delegates are always interesting, but the Democratic nomination fight in the 35th District looks like it'll be interesting indeed. Esam Omeish, a pediatric surgeon from Northern Virginia, has joined the race to succeed Del. Steve Shannon, D-Vienna. The 35th District includes the areas of Fairfax County just north and west of the city of Fairfax. Shannon is running for Attorney General. Omeish, the president of the Muslim American Society at the time, came into the political limelight nearly two years ago after he was appointed to the Commission on Immigration by Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine. The appointment didn't sit well with Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Woodstock, a fellow member of the commission. The society was too closely connected the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian group that gave rise to Hamas, for his taste. Gilbert wrote to Kaine and asked him to reconsider the appointment. A spokesman for the governor at the time dismissed Gilbert's concerns as "innuendo, moving dangerously close to slander," and challenged Gilbert to offer proof. Omeish resigned less than a day later, after online videos came to light in which Omeish accused Israel of genocide against Palestinians and exhorted Muslims to "the jihad way." Omeish later defended both the Muslim American Society and his comments after his resignation, saying in a press release that MAS "is an American organization, completely transparent and above-board, and committed to the civic engagement of Muslims for the betterment of all of American society." His call to jihad "was in the context of his public criticism of the Lebanon invasion and the oppression of Palestinians" and was not a call for violence. Omeish has three opponents for the Democratic nomination.

US to donate $900 million in aid to Gaza

State Department official says money for reconstruction of Strip will be transferred via UN; money meant to help strengthen Palestinian Authority, will not go to Hamas, official says

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton plans to announce a $900 million pledge of US aid for Gaza and the Palestinian Authority at a donors' meeting in Egypt next week, a State Department official said on Monday.

The money, which needs US congressional approval, will be distributed through UN and other bodies and not via Hamas, which rules Gaza, said one official.

"This money is for Gaza and to help strengthen the Palestinian Authority. It is not going to go to Hamas," said the official, who asked not to be named.

The March 2 donors conference in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh resort aims to raise humanitarian and rebuilding funds for Gaza after Israel's offensive at the end of last year.

Preliminary estimates put the damage in Hamas-run Gaza after Israel's offensive at nearly $2 billion.

Clinton's bid to get "substantial" funds could face an uphill battle in Congress where requests for Gaza will likely meet resistance as Hamas continues to rule there and the US focus is on its own souring economy.

Man slays sister for honour

KARACHI: A man surrendered himself after killing his elderly sister on the pretext of honour killing. Elahi Bux, 45, surrendered himself after axing to death his 60-year-old sister, Shehla Bibi, at his house located in Sector 15, Mehran Town, within the jurisdiction of Korangi Industrial Area Police Station. Confessing to the crime, the accused alleged that his sister had illicit relations with a landlord of Larkana.

According to SHO Ismail Lashari, Bux only dealt one swift blow to the victim’s head and when her screams attracted the neighbours, rather than fleeing, Bux waited for the police to arrive.

The police have registered a case on behalf of the victim’s son.

However, according to family sources, Bux was in financial debt of the landlord and as he could not repay the money, he had married his daughter to the landlord.

However, now the landlord wanted to marry Shehla Bibi, therefore, Bux thought it best to kill her rather than stain the family’s honour.

The deceased was a widowed mother of five children.

And some try to say that it is not islam that causes this problem. Sure.

Egyptian-born Ayman al-Zawahiri said Israel's Arab aides are trying to impose a truce in Gaza to defeat the Palestinians and he called on them to be steadfast while Jewish targets are attacked around the world.

"The jihad to liberate Palestine and all the homelands of Islam mustn't cease, and if the field tightens in one place, it widens in other places, and Crusader and Jewish targets are spread all over the world," he said in a transcript of the speech provided by the U.S.-based SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors Islamic extremist Web sites....

Wilders to screen Fitna at the Capitol!

WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Jon Kyl is hosting a film screening at the Capitol building on Thursday for a far-right Dutch lawmaker who claims that Islam inspires terrorism.

Yes, Geert Wilders originated that idea! Osama bin Laden never thought of it!

Kyl is sponsoring the event for Geert Wilders, who was denied entry to London earlier this month because British authorities said he posed a threat to public order.

Wilders’ 15-minute film juxtaposes verses from the Quran with images of violence by Muslims. Wilders has called the Quran a "fascist book" and said it should be banned.

Kyl agreed to facilitate the event because "all too often, people who have the courage to point out the dangers of militant Islamists find themselves vilified and endangered," said spokesman Ryan Patmintra.

Thursday’s event was being sponsored by the International Free Press Society, headed by Danish activist Lars Hedegaard, and the Center for Security Policy, a think tank in Washington led by Republican Frank Gaffney....
