He says that they offered to help him secure a cash payment from the alleged attackers, provided that he did not involve the police. Since then, he has been threatened with harsh consequences for refusing to back down.

Even as Abid was receiving treatment, the religious authorities pressed the hospital to discharge him. Mr Tanoli managed to get him admitted to a different hospital, where he is being treated free, although the family cannot afford an operation to save his sight. Mr Tanoli refuses to back down, despite being offered one million rupees (£12,000) by the teacher’s relations if he withdraws the charges. He has moved to a secret location for his own safety.

(IsraelNN.com) A Syrian paper reported Sunday that the U.S. Department of Commerce agreed to sell plane parts to Syria. The parts will be used to repair two Boeing 747s which are currently out of use in the country.

Former U.S. President Bush had forbid U.S. commerce with Syria expect for food and medicines. The Obama administration has been more lax in its approach to countries which support terrorism.

Official: Yemen releases 170 al-Qaida suspects

Yemen (AP): Yemeni security officials say the country has released 170 suspected al-Qaida members from custody, less than two weeks after the terror group announced that Yemen has become a base for its regional activities.

The officials say the suspects were freed Friday and Saturday after signing pledges not to engage in terrorism. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not allowed to make statements to the media.

Last month, Saudi al-Qaida fugitives in Yemen and their Yemeni associates announced in an Internet video that they were joining forces.

Yemen says it also expects most of the 100 Yemenis still held in the American prison camp at Guantanamo to be sent home after President Barack Obama ordered the prison shut.

The HNIC is going to let these animals go and send them back to Yemen. I say, if we catch them again on the battle field, we just kill them.

Gaza children traumatised after Israeli offensive

JABALYA CAMP, Gaza Strip (Reuters) - Five-year-old Mohammed al-Najjar lets his mind wander as he puts crayon to paper in an effort to depict an Israeli air strike inside a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.

"This is the plane and those are two missiles it fired. They hit a house and the house was damaged but was fine. The fridge caught fire," he says in matter-of-fact detail, sitting at a table with other children in Gaza's Jabalya camp.

He draws a girl who has survived the attack and places her outside the house, but there is also a boy.

Health workers say many children, including those who did not lose family members or their homes, are suffering post-war trauma. The Gaza Mental Health Programme is seeking them out in hospitals, schools and kindergartens.

Mohammed and his immediate family survived the 22-day Israeli air, land and sea assault launched on Dec. 27 by Israel to try and stop militants from firing rockets into southern Israel towns. But his nearby neighbours were victims.

Israelis have also suffered in the conflict. The latest phase began with a Palestinian uprising launched in 2000 as peace talks with Israel on a Palestinian state ran aground.
Some 8,000 rockets and mortar rounds were fired by militants at Israeli towns near Gaza since 2000, killing 18 people before the war.

Three more Israeli civilians were killed in the fighting. The trauma suffered by Israeli children was often cited by politicians as a justification for Israel's latest offensive.

In Jabalya, Nagham al-Askari, 5, revisits how she and her sister were wounded when Israeli forces targeted a passing motorcycle. "My sister Amira was wounded, and (doctors) removed part of her liver. I was wounded and my uncle bandaged my leg," Nagham said.

In Beit Lahyia, Ahmed Zayed, 9, cries as he recalls how Israeli bulldozers ploughed up land owned by his family. A wall in his home collapsed when it was hit by an Israeli tank shell.

"Our land was like heaven, with all sorts of fruits growing. It used to be the source of living for seven families. Why did it have to be bulldozed? I'd rather have died than see this," he said after plucking up the courage to visit his damaged school.

It was bulldozed because that is where they were firing rockets and mortars from and Israel has a right to destroy those animals that are trying to kill the Israelis.

His father said he led the family to a U.N.-run building waving a white flag. "My boy was shocked and I have been trying in vain to alleviate the shock. We're still living the reality and what we saw was beyond what a person can handle," he said.

Now Ahmed tries to look forward to happier times. "Every time I switch on the television I see funerals and bombardment. I hope to see cartoon movies," he says.

Families of Cole Victims Worry White House Meeting Is Window Dressing

President Obama is meeting with the families of victims from the Sept. 11 attacks and the USS Cole bombing, after a military judge on Thursday dropped charges against a suspect in the 2000 Cole bombing.

President Obama is meeting Friday afternoon with the families of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks and the bombing of the USS Cole -- but some invited guests say they worry that the gesture is window-dressing, since the administration has suspended trials of detainees at Guantanamo Bay and a military judge on Thursday dropped charges against a suspect in the 2000 Cole bombing.
The military charges against suspected Al Qaeda bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri marked the last active war crimes case at Guantanamo Bay. New charges can still be brought against al-Nashiri, and he will remain in prison for the time being.

But at least two Cole families complained to FOX News that Obama should have met with them first, to hear them out, before a final decision was reached on the charges.

"We've already waited eight years for justice. Justice delayed is justice denied," said retired Navy Cmdr. Kirk S. Lippold, the commanding officer of the Cole when it was bombed in Yemen.
Lippold expressed disappointment that he learned from FOX News, not the administration, that the charges in the al-Nashiri case had been dropped. Lippold, who is a fellow with Military Families United, said he would be among family members of victims who are meeting with Obama at the White House on Friday afternoon.

Gary Swenchonis, a Texas resident whose son, Gary Jr., was killed in the Cole bombing, told FOX News he turned down an invitation from the White House to meet with Obama.
Swenchonis said he received the invitation Thursday, and that he did not care to travel from Texas to Washington on such short notice to hear the "bad news" that charges were withdrawn in the al-Nashiri case.

Swenchonis and his wife Deborah wrote a letter to Obama last week expressing their concerns about the halting of military trials at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

"President Obama, now I fear these sailors who died in the service of the United States will be abandoned again," they wrote. "It will be one more tragedy in a long list of tragedies in the Cole attack. ... Our fear is if the terrorists are tried here in our federal courts, they will go free."

UN suspends aid to Gaza after accusing Hamas of theft

The United Nations has suspended all food aid for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip after accusing Hamas of stealing 10 lorry-loads of supplies.

After last month's war, which claimed 1,300 lives, about half of Gaza's 1.5 million people are dependent on emergency relief. These are the only supplies which Israel presently allows to pass through the territory's border crossings.

But the UN's Relief and Works Agency was forced to close down this operation after gunmen stole food that had been delivered through the Keren Shalom crossing point. A statement from the UN said the supplies had been taken away in lorries used by the social affairs ministry in Gaza's Hamas-controlled administration.

This was the second incident of wholesale theft of humanitarian aid. On Tuesday, 3,500 blankets and 400 food parcels were taken. The UN said that all deliveries would stop "until the aid is returned and the agency is given credible assurances from the Hamas government in Gaza that there will be no repeat of these thefts".

Israel has frequently been accused of punishing ordinary Palestinians by restricting the flow of goods into Gaza. The latest incident opens Hamas to the same charge.

EAU: 'PINK' BUSES TO ENCOURAGE WOMEN TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT

DUBAI, 6 FEB - In an attempt to attract and encourage more women to use public transport, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will soon launch 'Pink' buses in Dubai. Essa Al Dossari, CEO of Public Transport Agency in the RTA, told Khaleej Times that the pink-coloured standard buses will run on some select routes. The move follows the recent introduction of Pink Taxis for women. "We decided to paint the buses with pink as it is the favourite colour of most of the women and will be attracting to them. We are presently deciding on some other additional features inside these buses which could attract them even more," Dossari said. Seven per cent of the passengers who use RTA buses, are women, he said. "We have been doing a survey to identify the routes on which the number of women passengers is more. One of the routes is No.5, which passes through Karama and the Deira areas, and another is Route 3 which covers Al Ghusais, Muraqqabat, Trade Centre and Satwa areas," Dossari said. To cater to a larger number of women passengers, the RTA is making efforts to upgrade the bus services and facilities. "The number of seats in buses on some of the routes will be increased in order to accommodate more women passengers," he stated. The official said that the studies would be over in three weeks, after which the decision on the number of pink buses and the increase in the number of seats will be taken. "For the moment, in order to facilitate the women passengers and to encourage them to use more public buses, we have issued certain instructions. Women can now travel standing in the ladies' section of the buses," he said.

CIA: "The British Pakistani community is recognised as probably al-Qaeda's best mechanism for launching an attack against North America"

American spy chiefs have told the President that the CIA has launched a vast spying operation in the UK to prevent a repeat of the 9/11 attacks being launched from Britain.

They believe that a British-born Pakistani extremist entering the US under the visa waiver programme is the most likely source of another terrorist spectacular on American soil.

Intelligence briefings for Mr Obama have detailed a dramatic escalation in American espionage in Britain, where the CIA has recruited record numbers of informants in the Pakistani community to monitor the 2,000 terrorist suspects identified by MI5, the British security service.

A British intelligence source revealed that a staggering four out of 10 CIA operations designed to thwart direct attacks on the US are now conducted against targets in Britain.

And a former CIA officer who has advised Mr Obama told The Sunday Telegraph that the CIA has stepped up its efforts in the last month after the Mumbai massacre laid bare the threat from Lashkar-e-Taiba, the militant group behind the attacks, which has an extensive web of supporters in the UK.

The CIA has already spent 18 months developing a network of agents in Britain to combat al-Qaeda, unprecedented in size within the borders of such a close ally, according to intelligence sources in both London and Washington.

Bruce Riedel, a former CIA officer who has advised Mr Obama, told The Sunday Telegraph: "The British Pakistani community is recognised as probably al-Qaeda's best mechanism for launching an attack against North America."

"The American security establishment believes that danger continues and there's very intimate cooperation between our security services to monitor that." Mr Riedel, who served three presidents as a Middle East expert on the White House National Security Council, added: "President Obama's national security team are well aware that this is a serious threat."...

Around 270 cases have been reported in 2009, according to figures compiled by the Community Security Trust (CST), the body that monitors anti-Jewish racism, with most blamed on anti-Israeli sentiment in reaction to hostilities in Gaza. Attacks recorded during the first Palestinian intifida of the late 1980s averaged 16 a month.

Scotland Yard is understood to have placed prominent Jewish communities on heightened alert, while the Association of Chief Police Officers' national community tension team is responding to intelligence by issuing weekly patrol directives to chief constables instructing them of threats to Jewish communities in their areas.

Incidents recorded by the CST include violent assaults in the street, hate emails and graffiti threatening "jihad" against British Jews. One disturbing aspect involves the targeting of Jewish children. A Birmingham school is investigating reports that 20 children chased a 12-year-old girl, its only Jewish pupil, chanting "Kill all Jews" and "Death to Jews". In another incident a Jewish schoolgirl reported being bullied at a non-Jewish school because of the Gaza conflict....

Saudi human rights commisioner: "Religious particularities, as correctly viewed in Islam, supplement rather than detract from international human righ

GENEVA (AFP) — Saudi Arabia told the UN Human Rights Council on Friday that its status as an Islamic state should safeguard fundamental rights rather than fuel abuse, as it faced western calls for action to stop violations.

Zeid Al-Hussein, vice president of the country's three-year-old human rights commission, acknowledged there were violations in the country, often as a result of "individual practices" rooted in its tribal history.

But he insisted that Islamic law and practices should complement the legal standards the United Nations upholds.

"I wish to emphasize that -- and I weigh my words very carefully -- religious particularities, as correctly viewed in Islam, supplement rather than detract from international human rights standards," he told the Council.

"I am aware that, in most Islamic countries, individual practices do not always reflect the true essence of Islam and much remains to be done to ensure that human rights are promoted and protected," Hussein said.

Saudi Arabia's human rights record was being examined by the body's 47 member states under its first 'universal periodic review.'

"We acknowledge that there are some human rights violations attributable to individual practices," Hussein said.

"Many of these violations fall within the context of domestic violence, to which confusion between the true Islamic Shari'a and customs and traditions is a contributing factor," he added.

Human rights groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have been scathing of Saudi Arabia, highlighting its uneven application of executions -- 102 in 2008 and 153 in 2007 -- and strict Islamic policies.

Those include the way women are subject to a male guardian's permission to travel, work and marry.

They also complain of abuse of women, torture, widespread arbitrary arrest, indefinite detention without charge or trial and jailing of political activists in the Gulf nation.

Several countries, including Britain, Canada and Norway, recommended that Saudi Arabia abolish the family guardianship system and do more to prevent customs and traditions from harming women and children.

"While progress has been made, particularly in recent years, Saudi Arabia has more to do to ensure that its legal framework and domestic implementation meets international human rights standards," a British delegate told the Council. [...]

Hussein said the government was "constantly" trying to prevent domestic violence, control by husbands on their wives and children, pointed to a range of measures introduced over the past two years.

"In actual practice, the concept of guardianship, for example, often loses its connotation of responsibility and care, which are transformed into domination and coercion," he acknowledged. [...]

Despite guarantees for freedom of belief, non-Muslim religious worship could only be free within private homes in the Kingdom, Hussein said, largely due to the "sensitivities" that arose with its status as host to Islam's holiest shrines at Mecca and Medina.

"There is no point in discussing this issue from the standpoint of positive man-made law, since religious belief stems from the heart and not from rational proof," he explained.

Hillary wants to "reach out" to Muslims too, set to go to Indonesia

Indonesia is "an important country for the United States" as the world's largest Muslim-majority nation, State Department spokesman Robert Wood told reporters who asked why she included Indonesia on her visit to Asia.

"And the secretary feels it's important that we need to reach out and reach out early to Indonesia," Wood said.

Clinton will meet senior Indonesian officials in Jakarta to discuss "the close and growing partnership with Indonesia and prospectives on common interests in southeast Asia," he said....

UK Muslim Lord Ahmed-dinejad Wants British Jews Arrested & Tried for War Crimes

Britain's first muslim peer, Lord Ahmed, recently threatened the House of Lords with violent protests --- saying he would flood the streets of London with 10,000 saliva spewing hate filled muslim protesters --- if the House proceeded to show Dutch political leader, Geert Wilders, movie "Fitna" his threats caused the initial showing to be cancelled .

Flushed with pride that he cowtowed the House of Lords, the malodorous Lord Ahmed immediately rushed and bragged about his victory to the Pakistani press and declared it a "victory for the muslim community". Lord Ahmed's posturing and boasting to the Pakistani press/people clearly shows he places more allegiance and importance on his Pakistan "constituency" than the British people.

Lord Ahmed's actions have some people calling for him to be charged with treason.
Just a few days ago came the good news that the House of Lords might have recovered its collective spine and is choosing to ignore Lord Ahmeds threats and will have Geert Wilders come to the House and show his film - Fitna. LINK Let's hope they do so.

This is the same Lord Ahmed, who along with muslim members of parliament, joined 38 Islamist groups in warning the UK government that they should change their foreign policy or expect to be attacked.

Muslim leader accused of sexual assault in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE -- A Muslim leader faces sexual assault charges.
Chesapeake police arrested Imam Iskender Ali Mihr, also known as Iskender Evrenosoglu, on Tuesday.
The alleged victim says she was inappropriately touched last October while she was in his office for prayer.
That woman, a college student, left the U.S. and returned to Turkey.
She’s one of 100 followers of Ali Mihr in Hampton Roads.
Iskender Evrenosoglu, who lives on Marina Reach, is charged with one count of sexual battery.
Police say the woman filed a report on January 19 and Evrenosoglu was arrested Monday and released that day.
The Imam is due in court later this week.

According to Vienna weekly "Falter", the study shows 8.5 per cent of the Muslim teachers said it was understandable for violence to be used to spread Islam, 28.4 per cent said there was a contradiction in being both a Muslim and a European, and 44 per cent said they had to make their students understand they were better than non-Muslims.

In addition, 29 per cent said it was impossible for Muslims to integrate in Austria without losing their Muslim identity, and 55 per cent called Austrians xenophobic.

It is not zenophobic to want to protect yourself from barbarians.

On the other hand, 85.7 per cent said they did not believe Muslims had to keep to themselves to avoid losing their Muslim identity.

Anas Schakfeh, the president of the Islamic Denomination in Austria, called study results "out of order." He added: "I have nothing to do with it as long as it is a matter of private opinions."
