Afghanistan: U.S. Military burns Bibles for fear they'd be used to convert Muslims

(CNN) -- Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday.

The unsolicited Bibles sent by a church in the United States were confiscated about a year ago at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan because military rules forbid troops of any religion from proselytizing while deployed there, Lt. Col. Mark Wright said.

Such religious outreach can endanger American troops and civilians in the devoutly Muslim nation, Wright said.

"The decision was made that it was a 'force protection' measure to throw them away, because, if they did get out, it could be perceived by Afghans that the U.S. government or the U.S. military was trying to convert Muslims," Wright told CNN on Tuesday.

Troops at posts in war zones are required to burn their trash, Wright said.

The Bibles were written in the languages Pashto and Dari.

This decision came to light recently, after the Al Jazeera English network aired video of a group prayer service and chapel sermon that a reporter said suggested U.S. troops were being encouraged to spread Christianity....

I personally am an athiest and know that there is no god, but why are muslim clerics so worried about bibles getting into the hands of the common folk in their own language? Probably because when they read the loving message in the bible they will say "why read a book in a language that I do not understand?" Then the clerics will have less influence in the mobs of ignorant muslims.

Pakistan PM calls on unicorn to fight jihadists

"Terrorists are perverting the teachings of Islam and scholars should speak with one voice against the militants, Gilani said yesterday." Indeed they should, if terrorists are perverting the teachings of Islam. Yet in all these years since 9/11 we have seen non-Muslims call again and again for the exponents of the true, peaceful, tolerant Islam to step forward and begin to battle the jihadists on Islamic grounds. We have been assured that they are doing so, even though no specifics are ever forthcoming. We have seen Muslims condemn terrorism in vague language that does nothing to refute the jihadists' explanations of the Islamic justification for their actions. Just today a "moderate Muslim" from Britain has been emailing me to say that my explanation of jihad is wrong, wrong, wrong -- yet he has consistently sidestepped my requests that he produce a statement from any generally recognized Islamic authority to the effect that Muslims should not wage war against unbelievers and try to impose Sharia upon them.

I repeat yet again: if anyone can produce evidence of any mainstream Islamic sect or school of Islamic jurisprudence that teaches that Muslims must coexist with non-Muslims as equals on an indefinite basis without trying to subjugate them under Sharia, send it to me at director@jihadwatch.org, and I will publicly retract my statements to the contrary. But I have made this request many times before, and despite the many people who will be reading this who are avid to discredit what I am saying and the jihad and Islamic supremacism, they have never produced this.

Anyway, all this means that Gilani is calling upon the great unicorn to help him against the Taliban. He is appealing to Santa Claus for intervention. Good luck with that.

May 20 (Bloomberg) -- Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called on Islamic scholars to help root out extremism, as security forces waged an urban offensive against Taliban militants in the northwestern Swat Valley.

Terrorists are perverting the teachings of Islam and scholars should speak with one voice against the militants, Gilani said yesterday.

“It is time that they stand united to protect the country from all challenges,” Gilani said at a religious affairs conference in the capital, Islamabad, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

Pakistan’s government is trying to build support in the world’s second-most populous Muslim nation for its offensive against Taliban insurgents. The militants reneged on a peace accord and last month advanced on the capital, even after the government agreed to impose Islamic law in Swat and neighboring districts.

Religious schools, or madrassas, play a key role in radicalizing Pakistani youth and provide a pool of Taliban recruits who cross the border to attack western forces in Afghanistan, according to the United Nations and U.S. intelligence agencies....

US arms falling into hands of Taliban

KABUL — Insurgents in Afghanistan, fighting from some of the poorest and most remote regions on earth, have managed for years to maintain an intensive guerrilla war against materially superior American and Afghan forces.

Arms and ordnance collected from dead insurgents hint at one possible reason: Of 30 rifle magazines recently taken from insurgents’ corpses, at least 17 contained cartridges, or rounds, identical to ammunition the United States had provided to Afghan government forces, according to an examination of ammunition markings by The New York Times and interviews with American officers and arms dealers.

The presence of this ammunition among the dead in the Korangal Valley, an area of often fierce fighting near Afghanistan’s border with Pakistan, strongly suggests that munitions procured by the Pentagon have leaked from Afghan forces for use against American troops.

The scope of that diversion remains unknown, and the 30 magazines represented a single sampling of fewer than 1,000 cartridges. But military officials, arms analysts and dealers say it points to a worrisome possibility: With only spotty American and Afghan controls on the vast inventory of weapons and ammunition sent into Afghanistan during an eight-year conflict, poor discipline and outright corruption among Afghan forces may have helped insurgents stay supplied.

The United States has been criticized, as recently as February by the federal Government Accountability Office, for failing to account for thousands of rifles issued to Afghan security forces. Some of these weapons have been documented in insurgents’ hands, including weapons in a battle last year in which nine Americans died....

“The UN should be declared a terror-supporting entity”

(IsraelNN.com) The terror victims group Almagor lashed out at the United Nations on Sunday following the release of a UN report that heavily criticized several Israeli counterterror tactics.

“The UN should be declared a terror-supporting entity,” said Almagor director Meir Indor.

"The Israeli government and the Justice Ministry should begin a public relations campaign explaining that the UN is becoming systematically anti-Israel and seeks to cause trouble over Israel's struggle against terrorism,” he continued.

According to Almagor, suspected terrorists have refrained from giving information to Israeli forces in the past because they are aware that the UN and other organizations will protect them. That fact has led to terror attacks, the group claims.

Some bereaved families are looking into the option of filing suit against UN officials and others who have allowed terrorists to withhold information or continue their activities in safety, Almagor says....

UK: Conversion of pub to mosque approved even though mosque flouted law

THE conversion of a derelict inner-city pub into a mosque, carried out without planning permission, has been given the green light by councillors.

The Planning Committee was furious that owners of the former Bulls Head pub in Birchfield Road, Handsworth, had carried out the building work and extensions before securing their approval.

But they decided that the mosque was better than a boarded-up pub and reluctantly agreed to allow it.

Committee member Coun Margaret Waddington (Con, Sutton Trinity) said: “They know they had to have planning permission before they did anything, and yet here we are looking at an application retrospectively.

“I would not be inclined to support this for that reason, but looking at the site, the mosque would be better for local people than a derelict building attracting vandalism and anti-social behaviour.”...

There should not be a mosque in the US at all.

Hamas wants acceptance without changing its goal of destroying Israel

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Leaders of Hamas have begun reaching out to the West with conciliatory words, saying the Islamic militant group wants to be part of a Mideast solution and raising the possibility they would someday accept a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

In the most significant statement so far, Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal told British lawmakers recently that the group is open to "real peace." In Gaza, the Hamas government said last week it is ready to discuss "any approaches and proposals that can lead the region out of its current situation."

In a recent interview, Hamas lawmaker Yehiye Moussa said the group is "not demanding to destroy Israel." West Bank legislator Mahmoud Ramahi added that Hamas is ready to talk to the West — stressing the group has nothing in common with the virulently anti-Western al-Qaida.

The new tone seems mostly aimed at President Barack Obama, who was meeting Monday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington. As he puts together a new Mideast strategy, Obama must decide whether the U.S. will keep shunning Hamas, which seized Gaza by force in 2007 after winning parliamentary elections.

So far, the U.S. and international community insist they will deal with Hamas only if the group recognizes Israel first.

But some foreign policy experts in the U.S. and Israel are advocating a new approach to Hamas, noting that neither the boycott nor Israel's recent war in Gaza have toppled the militants.

Those advocating change include a former Israeli military commander of Gaza, an ex-chief of Israel's Mossad spy agency and a group led by Obama's now chief economic adviser, Paul Volcker.

Volcker's group told Obama that any future Palestinian government that includes Hamas should be judged by whether it's ready to observe a truce with Israel, and allow moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to negotiate with Israel — not by whether Hamas is ready to revoke its ideology....

In other words, if they're willing to destroy Israel later rather than sooner, he thinks the U.S. should play ball with them.

Hamas reiterates its refusal to recognize Israel

Just in case they hadn't made their point about refusing to change clearly enough.

Hamas reiterated over the weekend its refusal to recognize Israel's right to exist as representatives of the Islamic movement and the Fatah faction resumed "national unity" talks in yet another attempt to solve their disputes.

Sources close to the parties said that their representatives would make a final attempt in Cairo to reach agreement on the formation of a Palestinian unity government.

The fifth round of talks, which began on Saturday, is being held under the auspices of Egyptian Intelligence Chief Gen. Omar Suleiman.

The Fatah team is headed by former Palestinian Authority prime minister Ahmed Qurei, while the Hamas delegation is led by Musa Abu Marzouk, deputy chairman of the movement's "political bureau."

As the delegates began converging on the Egyptian capital, Hamas made it clear that it would turn down any demand to recognize Israel's right to exist or renounce terrorism.

In the past four sessions of talks, Fatah repeatedly demanded that Hamas recognize Israel and accept agreements already signed between the PLO and Israel as a precondition for establishing a unity government.

Hamas has stubbornly rejected the demand, each time prompting the Egyptians to suspend the talks.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said his movement was prepared to discuss any issue that did not include the three demands of the Quartet: recognition of Israel, acceptance of all previous agreements between Israel and the Palestinians, and the renunciation of terrorism.

"The demands of the Quartet and the US are totally unacceptable," Barhoum said, noting that Hamas's position in this regard remained unchanged. "We are prepared to discuss with Fatah all the options except for these demands."...

Obama statements encourage Palestinian jihadists

PLO Ambassador to Lebanon Abbas Zaki said this last month: "With the two-state solution, in my opinion, Israel will collapse, because if they get out of Jerusalem, what will become of all the talk about the Promised Land and the Chosen People? What will become of all the sacrifices they made - just to be told to leave? They consider Jerusalem to have a spiritual status. The Jews consider Judea and Samaria to be their historic dream. The Supreme Court ruled today that former attorney general John Ashcroft and FBI Director Robert Mueller may not be sued by Arab Muslims who were seized in this country after the 2001 terrorist attacks and allege harsh treatment because of their religion and ethnicity.

The court ruled 5 to 4 that the top officials are not liable for the actions of their subordinates absent evidence that they ordered the allegedly discriminatory activity. The decision followed the court's ideological split between conservatives and liberals, with Justice Anthony M. Kennedy siding with the conservatives and writing the opinion....

The suit against Ashcroft and Mueller was brought by a Pakistani citizen living legally in the country when he was arrested in the months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

Javaid Iqbal was held in solitary confinement in a section of a Brooklyn prison known as Admax-Shu, for "administrative maximum special housing unit," where he said he was subjected to numerous beatings and strip searches. He was convicted of document fraud and deported to Pakistan but cleared of any involvement in terrorism. An Egyptian Muslim who was also part of the suit, Ehad Elmaghraby, settled with the government for $300,000. Similar suits are pending.

Iqbal's case names prison guards, FBI agents, the warden of the prison -- who was the subject of a critical report from the Justice Department inspector general -- up to Ashcroft, who was attorney general at the time of the attack. Iqbal says policies formulated by Ashcroft and Mueller singled him out as a suspect of "high interest" solely because of his nationality and religion....

Miami: Iranian gets 17 months for conspiring to ship military aircraft parts to Iran

MIAMI (Reuters) – A U.S. judge has sentenced an aviation company owner to 17 months in prison for conspiring to ship parts for fighter jets and other military aircraft to Iran in violation of the U.S. embargo, according to court papers.

Hassan Saied Keshari, an Iranian national and naturalized American, was charged last June with a series of violations of the U.S. Arms Export Control Act, the Iran embargo and the International Emergency Powers Act. He pleaded guilty in January to one count of conspiracy.

U.S. District Judge Patricia Seitz dismissed 10 other charges at a hearing on Wednesday and sentenced him to 17 months in jail on the conspiracy count, with three years of probation after his release. He had faced up to 20 years in prison on the original charges.

U.S. authorities accused Keshari, the owner of Novato, California-based Kesh Air International, and Traian Bujduveanu, who owned Orion Aviation in Plantation, Florida, of helping the Iranian government build up its military.

The two men received e-mailed parts orders directly from Iran and then procured and illegally shipped the parts through Dubai to Iran, prosecutors said.

They shipped parts for the F-14 Tomcat fighter jet, the AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter and the CH-53 heavy-lift transport helicopter, prosecutors said....

KOTA: Taliban fighters are shaving off their beards and trying to flee from a Pakistani army offensive in their Swat bastion, the military said on Friday.

Clashes had erupted in various parts of the region, the military said on Friday, adding it was achieving successes. It also appealed to civilians to identify Taliban fighters trying to flee.

“We have confirmed reports that these Taliban terrorists, after shaving off their beards and cutting their hair, are fleeing from the area,” the military said. “We request the people of Swat to identify them,” it said, while providing a telephone number for informants to call or send text messages....

UK: Muslim doctor says she was fired for attending Friday prayers

Here again we see the same phenomenon playing out that we have seen many, many times over the last few years: a Muslim demands that a workplace change its practices to allow for Islamic observance, rather than dealing with the parameters of the job as it is. Every one of these incidents is a test case in the question of which will prevail: Islamic law or Western practice and custom. Will Muslims be established as a privileged class in Western countries, with rights that others don't have, or will equality of rights and equality of treatment be maintained?

A Muslim doctor who was dismissed from her job claims she was discriminated against on religious grounds because she wanted to attend a mosque for prayers every Friday, a tribunal heard yesterday.

Dr Musarrat Syed-Shah, 31, is alleging religious discrimination and victimisation against four partners from the North Leeds Medical Practice after her partnership agreement was terminated on August 8 last year.

The employment tribunal in Leeds heard that Dr Syed-Shah claims the other doctors were "unhappy" about her attending the weekly prayers.

Michael McDonough, for Dr Syed-Shah, told the tribunal: "They were unhappy with her attending the mosque for Friday prayers and they applied a condition to her which was not applied to anyone else by saying they were not allowed to leave the surgery between sessions."
Mr McDonough continued: "Following the notice of termination on August 8, she was expressly forbidden from going to the mosque from August 8 till the end of her contract."...

Dr Syed-Shah described herself in her evidence as a "devout" Muslim who had been on a pilgrimage to Mecca before taking up the post at the practice and prayed five times a day.

She had attended mosques on Fridays throughout her adult life.

On being given the job, Dr Syed-Shah said she requested Fridays off but was told it was not convenient.

However, she believed her sessions could be arranged to allow time in between to visit the mosque for Friday prayers, and said the practice manager, Sharon James, and one of the other partners, Dr Manjit Purewal, agreed there would be no problem with this.

When Dr Purewal later asked her to take on an extra shift on Fridays, meaning she would have to work for more than nine hours without a break and miss prayers, she objected and was accused of not pulling her weight. Dr Syed-Shah said: "I felt that this was an attack on me by Dr Purewal. He knew that I could not take up an extra surgery on that day."

At a meeting of the partners on August 4, one partner, Dr Marcus Julier, said: "Nobody should have a commitment that is more important than this surgery on any day that they are working at this practice."

Dr Syed-Shah said she was told the next day by partner Dr Elizabeth Martin that she would be "out of a job" if she continued going to Friday prayers. She said: "I felt bullied and victimised."...

It is more important for her to listen to hate speech against the West than it is for her to be a doctor and preform a surgery? Of course the muslims demand that they be treated differently than us ordinary dhimmis.

Did Afghan troops help Taliban with attack on American soldiers?

Kunar River Valley, Afghanistan — A pre-dawn attack by the Taliban that killed three American soldiers and six other coalition troops earlier this month is raising new questions about many of the Afghan soldiers who were supposed to be fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with them.

Officials are investigating whether the Afghan troops may have colluded with the Taliban in the brazen assault on the remote coalition outpost along the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Their findings could complicate further the already difficult challenges U.S. trainers are having with the Afghan Army.

American officials have questioned 11 Afghan Army soldiers and one Afghan interpreter who were taken prisoner after the battle and later released. Many U.S. troops in the area suspect that the Afghan POWs may have passively helped their Taliban attackers by laying down their arms, or even actively colluded with the enemy in the attack....

In the days following, U.S., Afghan, and Latvian forces embarked on joint operations to recover the dozen POWs. On May 6, approximately 400 coalition troops made a forceful push toward the Hel Gal Valley, where the POWs were believed to be held. But the mission was halted two hours after it began when the Taliban freed all 12 POWs after coalition forces broadcast radio messages demanding their return.

When asked what kind of condition the freed Afghan troops were in, Marine Lt. Col. Ted Adams replied, “Good condition. Too good, actually,” -- a sentiment echoed by other officers, which has led many to suspect that the POWs were complicit in the enemy attack.

Al-Qaeda to Yemen: "The time for the rule of Islam has come so that you could bask in the justice and tolerance it brings"

DUBAI, May 13 (Reuters) - Al Qaeda called on Wednesday for Islamic rule in Yemen and vowed to retaliate for what it said was the killing of civilians in clashes between police and locals in the south, where secessionist sentiment is strong.

The country in the Arabian Peninsula is trying to shake off an image of violence and lawlessness to promote tourism and foreign investment. It is battling al Qaeda, separatist calls in the south and Shi'ite rebels in the north.

"The time for the rule of Islam has come so that you could bask in the justice and tolerance it brings," Abu Basir Nasser al-Wahayshi, the leader of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, said in a recording posted on an Islamist website on Wednesday. "The injustice that befell you, God willing, will not pass without punishment. The killing of Muslims in the streets is a great crime that has no justification."[...]

President Ali Abdullah Saleh called on Yemenis earlier this month to hold a dialogue to maintain national unity following a a week of clashes in the south between the police and locals.

"As far as we are concerned, Ali Abdullah Saleh is an infidel and an agent ... and today he is using all forms of oppression with the pretext of preserving unity," said Wahayshi.

Saleh, who took power in the former North Yemen in 1978 and has been president since union with the south in 1990, has backed U.S. moves to crack down on al Qaeda after the September 11, 2001 attacks on U.S. cities...

Jihadists may have plotted terror attack from prison

Here is yet another example of prison being used as a laboratory for jihad.

ABC identifies the two men as French citizens, although it does note of Gendron that he is a convert to Islam. In not identifying them outright as Muslims, ABC is of course following standard journalistic practice, which proceeds on the assumption that jihad terror attacks are condemned by authoritative and mainstream Islam, and are a twisting and hijacking of the Islamic faith. It would be offensive to peaceful Muslims to identify these men as Muslims, we're told, despite the fact that they hatched this plot because of their understanding of Islamic texts and teachings.

Italian authorities on Tuesday delivered arrest warrants for international terrorism to two French citizens suspected of being important Al Qaeda representatives in Europe.

Dubbed the Sheik and the Engineer by the Italian press, the two men - Bassam Ayachi, 63, a Syrian-born with French citizen, and Marcel Gendron, 34, a French engineer converted to Islam - were already being held in prison in Bari, Italy on charges of organizing illegal immigration.
Investigators placed microphones inside the prison cell they shared.

According to the Italian paper La Repubblica, apparently aware that someone might try to listen, the men spoke in low voices and interrupted phrases and would turn up the volume of the TV in their cell at crucial times. Nonetheless a pool of 14 translators helped decipher the taped conversations in Arabic and French, which investigators say show the men were actively planning terrorist attacks in Europe -- with talk of "a ton of grenades" and a plane attack on Charles De Gaulle airport.

Particularly significant passages, according to Bari prosecutors' arrest warrant, obtained by Italian media:

Explosives Mentioned in Inmate Conversation
The explosives are mentioned in a conversation with another inmate:

Investigators believe that these conversations and many others show the two men were actively planning future attacks....

We need to just kill all muslims. They are going to take over the world. That is their stated goal. Why will no one listen. And why do they have to kill all of us? Because it says to do that in their book, the koran, the terrorist training manual.

Somalia president signs Islamic sharia bill into law

MOGADISHU, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed on Wednesday signed into law a parliament-passed bill introducing the Islamic Sharia law in Somalia as eight people were killed and fifteen others were wounded in fresh fighting that erupted in Mogadishu between government forces and Islamist fighters.

President Ahmed said since Somalia has an Islamic law he sees no reason for the continuation of hostilities in the country where nearly a week of clashes raged between the government forces and allied Islamist fighters from the hardline Al-Shabaab movement and Hezul Islam faction.

The Somali parliament unanimously endorsed the implementation of the Islamic Sharia law in the war-torn country last month.[...]

Meanwhile, the secluded spiritual leader of Al-Shabaab, Sheikh Muqtar Abderrahman Abu Zuhayr, said the fighting in Mogadishu is between "Good and Evil" and urged local people to support his fighters.

Abu Zuhayr, who has never been seen in public and whose whereabouts is unknown, released an 11-minute audio tape to local radio stations in Mogadishu.

"There is no neutrality in this war. Mogadishu residents should support the Mujahedeens because you cannot be neutral when the fight is between Good and Evil," said Abu Zuhayr.

Abu Zuhayr, who is wanted by the U.S. for terrorism, warned local media to be "neutral and not to mislead people", saying if the media cannot tell the truth, it should stop "twisting the truth and misleading the people".

"Fear God and report the facts as they are," Abu Zuhayr added.

He said the media has a duty towards the people, urging it to "take part in the Jihad (holy war)".

"The journalist should observe the efficiency and fairness of his profession and should never spoil the history of Islam and the people and his own," he said.

Spoil the history of islam? Hmmm? You mean terrorism.

Danish bus firm tells Muslim women to remove their veils

Common sense: "it is normal that passengers holding photo travel passes should identify themselves to the driver or the conductor." However, the cries of "Islamophobia" are inevitable.

Copenhagen. Observant Muslim women in Denmark will have to remove their face veils when their travel passes are being checked, one of the country's leading transport operators Arriva said Wednesday AFP informs.

Danish bus companies have introduced the rule after two incidents where Arriva drivers refused to allow passengers wearing the face veil, or niqab, to travel on their buses.

"All bus companies have recently come to an agreement on this point as it is normal that passengers holding photo travel passes should identify themselves to the driver or the conductor," Arriva spokesman Martin Wex said.

Those passengers who refuse to show their faces will be forced to buy another ticket to get on board, he said, adding that the policy would also apply to some Arriva train services in Denmark.

It is about time. We have seen many muslims dress like a woman to rob banks and other businesses. If they want to wear a mask, fine, walk.
