Somali stoning case: "We were told she submitted herself to be punished, yet we could see her screaming as she was forcibly bound, legs and hands."
Asha Ibrahim Dhuhulow, 23, was stoned to death after being accused of adultery, witnesses said. It was the first such public killing by the militants for about two years.
"The stoning was totally irreligious and illogical," said Dhuhulow's sister, who asked not to be named.
"Islam does not execute a woman for adultery unless four witnesses and the man with whom she committed sex are brought forward publicly," she said.
Dhuhulow was placed in a hole up to her neck for the execution late on Monday in front of hundreds of people in a square of this southern port, which the Islamist insurgents captured in August.
"A woman in a green veil and black mask was brought in a car as we waited to watch the merciless act of stoning," one resident, Abdullahi Aden, said.
"We were told she submitted herself to be punished, yet we could see her screaming as she was forcibly bound, legs and hands. A relative of hers ran towards her, but the Islamists opened fire and killed a child."
Stones were hurled at Dhuhulow's head, and the woman was brought out of the hole three times to see if she had died.
The Islamists last carried out public executions when they ruled Mogadishu and most of south Somalia for half of 2006. Allied Ethiopian and Somali government forces toppled them at the end of that year
The Islamists controlling this port provide security, but impose fundamentalist practices such as banning entertainment seen as anti-Islamic.
Islamist leaders at the execution said the woman had breached Islamic law. They promised to punish the guard who shot the child.
Muslim worker loses out in Tesco booze bid
Mohammed Ahmed, who worked in a warehouse, said the job was against his Islamic beliefs.
The 32-year-old, of Upper Dale Road, Normanton, also accused Tesco of victimisation and harassment during a three-day employment tribunal in Birmingham.
His job at the supermarket giant's Lichfield depot involved the transportation of various goods, including alcoholic drinks, on fork-lift trucks.
The Saudi Arabian national told the tribunal he was not informed that he would be handling alcohol when he started the job last year.
He said he was considering appealing against the decision after being told his legal action had failed.
He said: "It's not fair but what can I do? They [Tesco] were not taking into account my religious beliefs. I will consult with solicitors."
The situation came to a head before Christmas last year, when more alcohol was ferried to the Tesco warehouse in preparation for the festive season.
Mr Ahmed told the tribunal that he was not made aware he would be required to handle alcohol when he started the job, a claim denied by Tesco.
He also said he had not visited any of Derby's three Tesco stores and was unaware alcohol was served by the shop. He admitted, however, that he had been to Sainsbury's, Asda and Lidl stores.
He refused to touch alcohol because it was against his religious principles as a Muslim, he said, and asked to be found other work.
He told the tribunal that Tesco failed to co-operate and alleged he was told by a supervisor, "You do the job or go home", a claim also denied by the store.
Mr Ahmed, who moved to Derby in 2006, complained to Tesco but claimed he was treated unfairly as a result. After eight months working for the company, he left in protest.
Speaking after the three-day tribunal in Birmingham, he had said: "It's in our religion that we are not allowed to handle alcohol. In the UK there's equal opportunities that should protect me and my beliefs."
Tesco said Mr Ahmed was made aware during his employment induction course that he would be handling alcohol, and that every effort was made to find him an alternative role in the warehouse.

Canada: Islamic terrorist found guilty of "some" charges
An Ottawa software developer whom prosecutors accused of promoting a unique brand of ideological hatred has been found guilty of some terror-related charges against him, but not all.
Momin Khawaja, the first person charged under Canada's Anti-Terrorism Act, faced seven charges in connection with a foiled U.K. bomb plot.
An Ottawa judge found him guilty on five counts of financing and facilitating terrorism and two Criminal Code offences related to building a remote-controlled detonator with the intent of causing an explosion.
However, the judge said the prosecution did not prove beyond reasonable doubt that Khawaja, 29, was aware his U.K. associates planned to bomb domestic targets using the so-called Hi-Fi Digimonster detonator he built.
As a result, the charges related to the detonator weren't counted as terrorism-related charges, said CTV's Rosemary Thompson, outside the courtroom.
"So he faces a very stiff sentence down the road but the one caveat in this is his lawyer did convince the judge that his client wasn't aware of plans to bomb a night club and shopping centre as this cell was planning to do," Thompson told CTV Newsnet.
Khawaja's high-profile Canadian lawyer, Lawrence Greenspon, has argued his client was duped by the extremists into believing the group intended to wage an attack on NATO-led forces in Afghanistan, rather than targeting civilians in the U.K.
Crown Prosecutor David McKercher has pointed out that the British plotters bought and stockpiled a large quantity of fertilizer that could be used in a home-made bomb. He also said there was no chance Khawaja believed the plotters were going to carry the fertilizer into Afghanistan for use there, but that he knew they were planning to hit U.K. targets.
Evidence submitted in the case also indicated Khawaja met with people involved in the British plot to discuss remote-control technology, attended a terrorist training camp and that he supported the 9/11 terrorist bombings.
A shopping mall, night club, and electric and gas facilities were said to be on the group's list of U.K. targets.
Five of Khawaja's alleged co-conspirators were convicted in London last year and sentenced to life in prison.

Fatwa #48966
Is it permissible for a Muslim to great a non-Muslim first?
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen was asked about the ruling on greeting non-Muslims. He replied as follows:
Greeting a non-Muslim first is haraam and is not permitted, because the Prophet said: “Do not initiate the greeting with the Jews and Christians, and if you meet them in the street push them towards the narrowest part of it.” But if they greet us we have to respond to them, because of the general meaning of the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it, or (at least) return it equally”
The Jews used to greet the Prophet by saying, “Al-saam ‘alaykum ya Muhammad (Death be upon you, O Muhammad),” praying that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would die. So the Prophet said: “The Jews say ‘al-saam ‘alaykum (death be upon you),’ so if they greet you, then say, ‘Wa ‘alaykum (and also upon you).’”
If a non-Muslim greets a Muslim by saying “al-saamu ‘alaykum,” then we should respond by saying “wa ‘alaykum (and also upon you).” The fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said “wa ‘alaykum” indicates that if they were saying “al-salaamu ‘alaykum (peace be upon you),” then peace will also be upon them, i.e., whatever they say to us, we say to them. Hence some of the scholars said that if a Jew, Christian or other non-Muslim clearly says “al-salaamu ‘alaykum,” it is permissible for us to say “ ‘alaykum al-salaam (upon you be peace).”
Similarly it is not permissible to initiate a greeting such as Ahlan wa sahlan (welcome) and the like, because that is a kind of honouring them. But if they say something like that to us, then we should say something similar to them, because the greeting should be returned in like manner and each person should be given his due. It is well known that the Muslims are higher in status before Allaah, so they should not humiliate themselves in front of non-Muslims by greeting them first.
So, in conclusion, it is not permissible for us to greet non-Muslims first, because the Prophet forbade that, and because this is a humiliation for the Muslim when he starts to honour a non-Muslim. The Muslim is higher in status before Allaah, so he should not humiliate himself in this manner. But if we are greeted then we should return the greeting in similar terms.
Similarly it is not permissible for us to greet them first with words such as Ahlan wa sahlan (welcome), Marhaban (hello) and so on, because that is a kind of honouring them, so it is like initiating the greeting of salaams with them. Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 3/33.
If there is a need to greet a kaafir first, there is no sin in that, but it should be something other than the greeting of salaam, such as saying Ahlan wa sahlan or How are you, etc. In that case the greeting is for a reason, not to honour him.
See al-Mawsoo’ah al-Fiqhiyyah, 25/168.
Ibn al-Qayyim said in Zaad al-Ma’aad (2/424), concerning greeting a kaafir first:
A group of scholars said: It is permissible to greet him first if that serves a purpose, or for fear of his harm, or because of blood ties, or for a reason that requires that.
Creeping Sharia has come to the US
Syrian foreign minister accuses U.S. of "terrorism" in raid on al-Qaeda cell
London, 27 Oct.(AKI) - Syria's Foreign Minister, Walid Muallem, on Monday accused the United States of "terrorist aggression" over an alleged weekend raid on a village near the Iraqi border. Speaking in London after talks with British Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, Muallem said the attack was in breach of international law.
"We consider this criminal and terrorist aggression. We put the responsibility on the American government," he told a media conference in London.
"Killing civilians in international law means a terrorist aggression," he added, in the first comments by a Syrian minister since the reported attack on the village of Al-Sukkariya, eight kilometres from the border.
Earlier on Monday, Iran joined Syria in condemning the alleged US attack.
Asked if Syria would use force if the Americans mounted a similar operation again, he said: "As long as you are saying if, I tell you, if they do it again, we will defend our territories."
Muallem stressed that all the victims were unarmed Syrian civilians who were killed on Syrian territory.
The Syrian minister said that four American helicopters had crossed the border around 5 p.m/ on Sunday local time. Two of them landed at the village site, while the other two aircraft protected them.
In Washington, White House spokeswoman, Dana M. Perino, refused to comment on the reported attack. However, media reports say that an unnamed US military official confirmed the attack.
[...] The US military said it was targeting the network of al-Qaida-linked foreign fighters moving through Syria to help fight in Iraq. Syria said troops in four helicopters attacked a building and killed eight people, including four children.
"They know full well that we stand against al-Qaida," al-Moallem said. "They know full well we are trying to tighten our border with Iraq."

Former slave wins landmark compo case
A court has ordered the Niger Government to pay the woman $32,000.
Hadijatou Mani was just 12 years old when she sold to a man, who forced her to perform domestic and agricultural work.
She served him for 10 years and also became his sex slave, bearing him children.
"My master has four wives. We the slaves were doing all the housework like cooking, fetching water and firewood. I was beaten so many times."
Ms Mani accused the Niger government of failing to protect her from slavery, which was criminalised five years ago.
Her lawyer, Ibrahim Kane, says the judgement will bring hope to other slaves.
"There are thousands and thousands of slaves in Niger who will be today relieved to hear that you know the practice of slavery in this country is not allowed," he said.
Anti Slavery International estimates there are still at least 43,000 slaves in Niger.
Religion of Peace at it Again
THOUSANDS of people gathered to witness 50 Somali men stone a woman to death after an Islamic court found her guilty of adultery, witnesses say.
Aisho Ibrahim Dhuhulow, who had been found guilty of extra-marital intercourse by a court in the southern port of Kismayo, was buried in the ground up to her neck while the men pelted her head with rocks today, the witnesses said.
"Our sister Aisho asked the Islamic Sharia court in Kismayo to be charged and punished for the crime she committed," local Islamist leader Sheikh Hayakallah told the crowd.
"She admitted in front of the court to engaging in adulterous sexual intercourse," he said.
"She was asked several times to review her confession but she stressed that she wanted Sharia law and the deserved punishment to apply."
The execution was carried out in one of the city's main squares.
The port of Kismayo was seized in August by a coalition of forces loyal to rebel leader Hassan Turki, and the Shebab, the country's main radical Islamist insurgent organisation.
The new administration began implementing a strict form of Sharia (Islamic law).
"This afternoon we are telling the people of Kismayo that we are practising a punishment that is rare in this region and was carried out in Kismayo for the first time," Sheikh Hayakallah said.
Cameras were banned from the public stoning but print and radio journalists were allowed to attend.
Thousands of people gathered for the slaughter.

Palestinian pol: Unless we get a state, "instability" will continue
The Palestinian people are "asking for a fair and total peace", which can only be reached "through the proclamation of a sovereign State, with Jerusalem as its capital and within the territory occupied in 1967. This is the basis for "peaceful coexistence with the Israeli people". Otherwise, "the region will encounter yet further problems and will remain a cause of instability in the world". These are the words of the Palestinian National Authority's Vice-Minister for Youth and Sport, Musa Abu Zaid, who was speaking today in Rende at the Euro-Mediterranean conference on the charity sector, which is linked to the 2008 Rexpò forum on social responsibility. "The Palestinian people", added the PNA's government representative, "have played an active and guiding role in the resistance of the occupation of Israel, acting in the love of liberty and independence. Consequently, they have paid a high price in terms of martyrs, wounded people, and those who have been arrested and expelled, just as they have suffered the destruction of economic, social and educational infrastructures, which has had a serious impact on the younger generations, in particular".

HORSES FIGHTING TO THE DEATH IS MUSLIM FESTIVAL TRADITION
Hold on! Gambling is illegal in the cult of islam. That is what I have been told.
Families gather in their thousands and children climb trees for a better view of the festival taking place below.
The crowd cheer and laugh — the object of their excitement a bloodied stallion kicked so brutally by another that its eyeballs have been dislodged from their sockets.
Welcome to the vile spectator sport of HORSE-FIGHTING.
A mare in season is tethered to the side of a filthy, makeshift pen to ignite sexual rivalry among the stallions and guns are fired into the air to panic them into violence.
In the wild, the gentle giants never fight to the death. Males clash over mates, as well as leadership rights, but the weaker ones give in to the stronger ones before they are seriously injured or killed.
Yet in the depraved, man-made heat of the fight ring, they are not allowed to back down and thousands of stallions are maimed, crippled or killed each year.
Jihadist sentiments rising in Middle East!
Business grinding to a halt for daily prayers is not unusual in conservative Saudi Arabia, but until recently it was rare in the Egyptian capital, especially in affluent commercial districts like Mohandiseen, where the mall is located.
But nearly the entire three-story mall is made up of computer stores run by Salafis, an ultraconservative Islamic movement that has grown dramatically across the Middle East in recent years....
Critics worry that the rise of Salafists in Egypt, as well as in other Arab countries such as Jordan and Lebanon, will crowd out the more liberal and tolerant version of Islam long practiced there. They also warn that the doctrine is only a few shades away from that of violent groups like al-Qaida — that it effectively preaches "Yes to jihad, just not now."...
Salafist groups are gaining in numbers and influence across the Middle East. In Jordan, a Salafist was chosen as head of the old-guard opposition group, the Muslim Brotherhood. In Kuwait, Salafists were elected to parliament and are leading the resistance to any change they believe threatens traditional Islamic values.
The growth of Salafism is visible in dress. In many parts of Cairo women wear the "niqab," a veil which shows at most the eyes rather than the "hijab" scarf that merely covers the hair. The men grow their beards long and often shave off mustaches, a style said to imitate the Prophet Muhammad.
The word "salafi" in Arabic means "ancestor," harking back to a supposedly purer form of Islam said to have been practiced by Muhammad and his companions in the 7th century. Salafism preaches strict segregation of the sexes and resists any innovation in religion or adoption of Western ways seen as immoral....
Its preachers often glorify martyrdom and jihad — or holy war — but always with the caveat that Muslims should not launch jihad until their leaders call for it. The idea is that the decision to overturn the political order is up to God, not the average citizen.
The Salafi way contrasts with the Islam long practiced in Egypt. Here the population is religious but with a relatively liberal slant. Traditionally, Egyptian men and women mix rather freely and Islamic doctrine has been influenced by local, traditional practices and an easygoing attitude to moral foibles.
But Salafism has proved highly adaptable, appealing to Egypt's wealthy businessmen, the middle class and even the urban poor — cutting across class in an otherwise rigidly hierarchical society.
In Cairo's wealthy enclaves of Maadi and Nasr City, robed, upper-class Salafis drive BMWs to their engineering firms, while their wives stay inside large homes surrounded by servants and children.
Sara Soliman and her businessman husband, Ahmed el-Shafei, both received the best education Egypt had to offer, first at a German-run school, then at the elite American University in Cairo. But they have now chosen the Salafi path.
"We were losing our identity. Our identity is Islamic," 27-year-old Soliman said from behind an all-covering black niqab as she sat with her husband in a Maadi restaurant.
A dozen satellite TV channels, most Saudi-funded, are perhaps Salafism's most effective vehicle. They feature conservative preachers, call-in advice shows and discussion programs on proper Islamic behavior.
Cairo's many Salafist mosques are packed on Fridays. Outside Shaeriyah mosque, a bookstall featured dozens of cassettes by Mohammed Hasaan, a prolific conservative preacher who sermonizes on the necessity of jihad and the injustices inflicted on Muslims.
Alongside the cassettes, a book titled "The Sinful Behaviors of Women" displayed lipstick, playing cards, perfumes and cell phones on the cover. Another was titled "The Excesses of American Hubris."
Critics of Salafism say it has spread so quickly in part because the Egyptian and Saudi governments encouraged it as an apolitical, nonviolent alternative to hard-line jihadi groups.
Obama's ties to CAIR, Nation of Islam mean that he would "fail the standard security clearance process for Federal employees"
Instead, then, let us review a related subject – Obama's connections and even indebtedness, throughout his career, to extremist Islam. Specifically, he has longstanding, if indirect ties to two institutions, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), listed by the U.S. government in 2007 as an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas-funding trial; and the Nation of Islam (NoI), condemned by the Anti-Defamation League for its "consistent record of racism and anti-Semitism."
That Obama's biography touches so frequently on such unsavory organizations as CAIR and the Nation of Islam should give pause. How many of politicians have a single tie to either group, much less seven of them? John McCain charitably calls Obama "a person you do not have to be scared [of] as president of the United States," but Obama's multiple links to anti-Americans and subversives mean he would fail the standard security clearance process for Federal employees.
Russia: Jihad against slot machines
NAZRAN, Russia (Reuters) - Armed men drove into Russia's Ingushetia region and abducted up to 15 people including policemen from a checkpoint and a slot machine parlour, police and witnesses said on Friday.
Witnesses said the gunmen, dressed in camouflage, entered Ingushetia from neighbouring Chechnya late on Thursday and presented themselves as police officers. Chechen authorities said they had nothing to do with the raid.
Islamist groups fighting an insurgency in Ingushetia against Moscow's rule frequently target gambling halls and shops selling alcohol, saying they contradict Islam....
Saudi beheaded for beating wife to death
Riyadh - A Saudi national was beheaded Wednesday after being found guilty of beating his Yemeni wife to death with a stick, an interior ministry satetment said.
It said the killing happened in the southern Jizan region. A Saudi national had already been executed Tuesday in Jeddah for killing his wife during an argument.
The latest executions bring to 78 the number carried out this year in the kingdom, where Islamic sharia law pertains.
Man beheads woman, parades with head in Bangladesh
The man, identified only as Amin, 34, had quarreled with his wife and left home for three days, Dhaka metropolitan official Anwarul Islam said.
When he returned home Thursday his wife was not there, and he burst into the room of the 22-year-old tenant, Tuli, and severed her head with a sharp kitchen knife, Islam said. He then paraded with the head on the streets outside, he said.
Police detained Amin after receiving calls from frightened witnesses, he said.
Islam said Amin's mother, Rokeya Begum, had a three-room apartment in Dhaka's Segunbagicha area and began renting one room to Tuli about two months ago. Begum also was injured when she tried to stop her son from attacking Tuli, he said.
Islam said Amin was being examined at the state-run Dhaka Medical College Hospital to determine whether he was mentally normal.
Police said they are still investigating the incident.
Of course he is mental, HE IS A MUSLIM!!!!

Spencer: The Hate Crimes Racket
When Jilani originally reported this incident, college officials acted quickly, locking down the campus for a thoroughgoing police search. Hundreds of students out of the 3,300-member student body held a rally protesting the “hate crime,” and campus police offered Muslim students free rides and escorts around campus.
But now the crisis is over: the culprit has been arrested and charged with a felony -- and turns out to have been…Safia Jilani. After investigating the incident all week, police announced Friday that no one had hit Jilani on the head at all, and charged her with filing a false police report -- a felony that could get her three years in prison.
This is how they work. They play the victims and everyone runs to their side and say look how bad. Then we find out, more often than not, that the claims are false.
Iran mulling pre-emptive strike against Israel
The official, Dr. Seyed G. Safavi, said recent threats by Israeli authorities strengthened this position, but that as of yet, a preemptive strike has not been integrated into Iranian policy.
Safavi said a small, experienced group of officials is lobbying for a preemptive strike against Israel. "The recent Israeli declarations and harsh rhetoric on a strike against Iran put ammunition in these individuals' hands," he said.
Regarding dialogue with the United States and the West, Safavi said Iran's decision would be influenced by the results of the U.S. presidential elections next month, as well as by the Iranian presidential elections in June and the economic situation in the Islamic Republic.

Two female Kuwaiti ministers risk "dismissal" for not wearing the veil
The only two women in Kuwait's executive branch risk being driven out from the government. The parliamentary legal committee has decided that their presence violates the constitution and the law, because they do not wear the hijab, the Islamic veil. The committee's statement will now be submitted to voting by the fifty members of parliament.
The Kuwaiti parliament is dominated by conservatives, who had four of the seven seats on the committee. But three "liberals" also voted against the two women. "The committee unanimously decided that appointing the two ministers in the cabinet violated article 82 of the constitution and article one of the election law for failing to abide by Islamic regulations," says Ali al-Hajeri, spokesman for the legal and legislative committee.
The two women under accusation (shown in the photo at a parliamentary session) are education minister Nuriya al-Sebih and administrative development minister Mudhi al-Humoud. Appointed following the elections on May 17, the two women immediately met with negative reactions from conservatives. At its first session, on June 1, parliament approved submission of the matter to the committee, which has now decided. That same day, as cabinet members took the oath, nine parliamentarians left the hall in protest against the "un-Islamic" attire of the two women.
Iran: We busted a pigeon spy ring
One of the pigeons was caught near a rose water production plant in the city of Kashan in Isfahan province, the Etemad Melli newspaper reported. It said that some metal rings and "invisible" strings were attached to the bird, suggesting that it might have been somehow communicating what it had seen with the equipment it was carrying.
"Early this month, a black pigeon was caught bearing a blue-coated metal ring, with invisible strings," a source told the newspaper.
The source gave no further description of the pigeons, nor what their fate might be.
Natanz is home to Iran's heavily-bunkered underground uranium enrichment plant, which is also not far from Kashan.
The activity at Iran's controversial uranium enrichment facility is the focus of Iran's five-year standoff with the West, which fears it aims to develop nuclear weapons. The Tehran government insists its programme is intended to generate power for civilian use only.
Last year, Iran issued a formal protest over the use of espionage by the United States to produce a key intelligence report on the country's controversial nuclear programme.
It is also highly suspicious of Israel, whose extensive intelligence activities are not known to include the use of pigeons.
Denmark: Two jihadists found guilty of preparing attack
Hammad Khuershid was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Abdoulghani Tokhi was sentenced to seven years by a court in the town of Glostrup, just outside the capital of Copenhagen. Both are in their early 20s.
The men were arrested after an anti-terror raid that saw Danish agents filming them as they were carrying out a test blast. The explosives were reportedly the same as those used in the 2005 London bombings that killed 52 people.
Both men claimed the explosives were going to be used for fireworks.
At the trial prosecutors alleged that Khuershid had ties to an Al-Qaeda operative but they were unsure whether the attack was going to take place in Denmark or abroad.
Investigators claimed to have found bomb-making manuals in the men's homes.
Tokhi has a residency permit to live legally in Denmark, but authorities said he would be deported after completing his sentence.
There have been several anti-terrorism raids, arrests of terrorism suspects and a terrorism trial in Denmark since 2005. That was the same year that the country attracted widespread condemnation from Muslims around the world after Danish daily Jyllands-Posten published cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.
Denmark is also involved in the war in Afghanistan and maintains a small contingent of troops in Iraq.
Jordanian poet arrested on charges of "harming the Islamic faith"
The poet, Islam Samhan, published his collection of poems, "Grace like a Shadow," without the approval of the Jordanian government, and authorities say it insults the holy book, the official said.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
Samhan was charged with harming the Islamic faith and violating the press and publication law for combining the sacred words of the Quran with sexual themes.
If convicted, the poet could face up to three years in jail.
Jordanian law bans the publication of any books or articles that could be seen as harmful to Islam and its Prophet Muhammad.
A book of love poems can harm Muhammad from beyond the grave?
More than two years ago, the court convicted the editors of two weekly newspapers of insulting Islam and sentenced them to two months in prison after they reprinted Danish newspaper caricatures of Muhammad.
Jordanian writers and artists urged the government in a collective petition to immediately release the poet, saying the arrest is a "retreat in the freedom of expression," and called for an end to the "oppression of freedom and intimidation practiced against intellectuals."

Fort Dix jihadist: "They are the ones, we are going to put bullets in their heads, Allah willing."
The suspects may have trained by playing paintball but the alleged plot to attack Fort Dix in New Jersey has been presented by the US government as one of the most serious examples of home-grown terrorism since the September 11 attacks.
The five men, all born outside the US but resident in the country, were charged in May 2007 with planning but not executing the attack on the base, which trains troops for deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan.
At the start of their trial yesterday, prosecutors said the defendants were inspired by "jihad".
"Their motive was to defend Islam. Their inspiration was al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. Their intent was to kill members of the United States armed services," said William Fitzpatrick, prosecuting.
The government alleges that in 2006 and 2007 the men turned paintball games into terrorist training sessions and met at places like Dunkin' Donuts to discuss killing soldiers on the army installation in New Jersey.
The jury was told it would see jihadist videos that the defendants watched and would learn many details of the alleged plot, including claims that one of the men went on reconnaissance missions at Fort Dix and other military installations.
The men, all aged in their 20s, have denied terrorism charges. They include three Albanian-born brothers, illegal immigrants who ran a roofing business in New Jersey.
The others are a Jordanian-born taxi driver and a Turkish-born convenience store assistant.
Their lawyers are expected to question the role of two paid government informants who made hundreds of hours of secret recordings in the case.
Addressing such potential claims, Mr Fitzpatrick said the FBI had to find people who would have credibility with aspiring terrorists.
One of the informants was interested in citizenship and the other was interested in money, he said.
The court heard that conversations recorded by the FBI included one in which Mohamad Shnewer, the Jordanian-born defendant, referred to being tailed by a car.
Quoting Shnewer in the recording, Mr Fitzpatrick said: "They are the ones, we are going to put bullets in their heads, God willing."
A sixth man who admitted supplying firearms to the group was jailed for 20 months in March.
China's Islamic Crackdown has Begun
With prayers banned in public areas, private hajj trips not allowed, teaching of the Noble Qur'an not allowed in private and students and government officials forced to eat during Ramadan, China in enforcing laws and regulations restricting the practice of Islam.
In Khotan, signs posted in front of the grand mosque say the weekly Friday prayer sermon must not extend beyond than a half-hour.Prayers in public areas outside the mosque is forbidden and residents are banned from worshipping at mosques outside their town.Under the rules, imams are banned from teaching the Qur'an in private and only official versions of the Qur'an are allowed.Studying Arabic is only allowed at special government schools.Government workers are banned from showing the slightest sign of religious devotion. For example, a Muslim civil servant could be sacked for donning hijab. Many of the rules have been on the books for years, but local authorities have publicly highlighted them in recent weeks with banners hanged in towns. They began posting regulations mandating women not to wear hijab and men to shave their beards.
Students and government workers are compelled to eat during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Signs painted on mud-brick walls in the winding alleyways of old Kashgar warn against making "illegal" hajj."Implement the policy of organized and planned pilgrimage; individual pilgrimage is forbidden," reads a red banner hanging on a large mosque in Urumqi, the regional capital of Xinjiang.
U.S. military: Terms like "jihad" and "Islamist" needed
"We must reject the notion that Islam and Arabic stand apart as bodies of knowledge that cannot be critiqued or discussed as elements of understanding our enemies in this conflict," said the internal report, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times.
The report, "Freedom of Speech in Jihad Analysis: Debunking the Myth of Offensive Words," was written by unnamed civilian analysts and contractors for the U.S. Central Command, which is responsible for the Middle East and South Asia. It is thought to be the first official document to challenge those in the government who seek to downplay the role of Islam in inspiring some terrorist violence.
"The fact is our enemies cite the source of Islam as the foundation for their global jihad," the report said. "We are left with the responsibility of portraying our enemies in an honest and accurate fashion."
The report contributes to an ongoing debate within the U.S. government and military over the roots of terrorism, its relationship to Islam and how best to counter extremist ideology.
It cites two Bush administration documents that appear to minimize any link between radical Islam and terrorism.
A January 2008 memorandum from the Department of Homeland Security's Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties stated that unidentified American Muslims recommended that the U.S. government avoid using the terms "jihadist," "Islamic terrorist," "Islamist" or "holy warrior," asserting that would create a "negative climate" and spawn acts of harassment and discrimination.
Dan Sutherland, Homeland Security officer for civil rights and civil liberties, said the document is not department policy.
"This was a compilation of recommendations and thoughts provided to us by some prominent American Muslim thinkers and never was intended to be Department of Homeland Security policy," he said in an interview.
"If a paper from another part of government says this doesn't make sense, that's a valid point. This memo is a thought piece meant to stir discussion."...

Muslim convert admits attempted suicide terror attack
Reilly researched how to make a bomb, acquired the components and made three devices using caustic soda, paraffin and aluminium foil, along with nails, which he had put in glass soft drink bottles.
But when he attempted to assemble one of the soft drink bottle bombs in the lavatory cubicle of the restaurant it exploded in his hands.
BOOOOOMMMMM!!!! TO BAD IT DID NOT TAKE OFF HIS HANDS LIKE CAPTAIN HOOK WHO ALSO LIVES IN BRITAIN.
Reilly appeared at the Old Bailey via a video link and pleaded guilty to attempted murder at the Giraffe restaurant.
He also admitted engaging in preparation for terrorism in that he researched targets and how to make bombs and prepared three of them in the restaurant.
Two charges under the Explosives Act were not put to him after Stuart Baker, prosecuting, told the court that they were alternatives to the more serious charges.
At 10.20am on May 22 Reilly boarded a double-decker Stagecoach bus at Bretonside bus station in his home town of Plymouth, arriving in Exeter shortly after 12 noon.
He took the assembled bombs to the lavatories of the Giraffe restaurant at the Princesshay shopping centre and at around 12.50pm tried to set them off in the main dining area.
He was injured in the attack, in which one device partially detonated, and spent four days in hospital.
When police searched the flat he shared with his mother and 10-year-old brother, they found a typed note which suggested he had planned a suicide attack.
Suicide is not allowed in islam, but being killed while killing infidels is a guarenteed way to get to paradise and your 72 virgins.
Reilly, of King Street, Plymouth, was arrested when he staggered outside after suffering serious facial injuries in the blast on May 22.
UK Muslims stage protest over being questioned at airports
MUSLIMS BLOW THEMSELVES UP TO KILL THE INFIDELS AND GOTO PARADISE. DING, DING, DING, DING YOU WIN.
A protest has been staged outside Strathclyde Police headquarters over alleged "harassment" of Muslim travellers at Glasgow Airport.
About 60 demonstrators claimed that Pakistani and Afghan passengers had been "interrogated" for up to three hours by officers from Special Branch.
They accused police of operating "discriminatory policies".
Strathclyde Police said it welcomed dialogue over the implementation of terrorism legislation.
President of the Scottish Afghan Society, Mohammad Asif, said Strathclyde Police had a duty to treat Muslim passengers like "human beings".
"Muslim community members have been singled out for questioning for no apparent reason other than being Afghan or Pakistani," he said.
"This treatment is unacceptable in a democracy and we are fed up with the discriminatory policies of Strathclyde Police Special Branch.
"We cannot bear the psychological torture anymore. The authorities treat us like terrorists, as well as putting pressure on Afghans to become informers and spies, but we are not going to be intimidated and pressurised."
The treatment is unacceptable? Well to damned bad. If muslims were not killing themselves and trying to take as many of us with them this would never be happening. Remember: Read koran, become terrorist. It is that simple. I for one say error on the side of caution.
Al-Takeyya
The Islamic principle of lying for the sake of Allah. Falsehoods told to prevent denigration of Islam, to protect oneself, or to promote the cause of Islam are sanctioned by the Qur'an, including lying under penalty of perjury in testimony before the United States Congress, lying or making distorted statements to the media such as claiming that Islam is a religion of peace, and deceiving fellow Muslims when the one lying has deemed them to be apostates. See the Islam Review article for documentation of this from the Qur'an and the Hadith. The practice of Al-Takeyya is commonly employed to declare a Hudna.

FBI admits that the murder of Amina and Sarah Said may have been an honor killing
What can we do to help make sure that there is never another such killing here?
But what do you think the odds are that any public figure will call upon Muslims in America to do anything like that? I would put them at, oh, about a billion to one.
Almost a year after two teenage girls were found dead — allegedly executed by their father — in the back seat of a taxicab in Texas, the FBI is saying for the first time that the case may have been an "honor killing."
Sarah Said, 17, and her sister Amina, 18, were killed on New Year's Day, but for nine months authorities deflected questions about whether their father — the prime suspect and the subject of a nationwide manhunt — may have targeted them because of a perceived slight upon his honor.
The girls' great-aunt, Gail Gartrell, says the girls' father killed them both because he felt they disgraced the family by dating non-Muslims and acting too Western, and she called the girls' murders an honor killing from the start.
But the FBI held off on calling it an honor killing until just recently, when it made Yaser Abdel Said the "featured fugitive" on its Web site.
"That's what I've been trying to tell everybody all along," Gartrell told FOXNews.com. "I would say that's a victory."
Here comes CAIR to worry about "stigmatizing" the Muslim community.
But some Muslims say that calling the case an honor killing goes too far.
"As far as we're concerned, until the motive is proven in a court of law, this is [just] a homicide," Mustafaa Carroll, the executive director of the Council of American-Islamic Relations in Dallas, told FOXNews.com.
He said he worries that terms like "honor killing" may stigmatize the Islamic community. “We (Muslims) don’t have the market on jealous husbands ... or domestic violence,” Carroll said.
The United Nations estimates that 5,000 women are killed worldwide every year in honor killings — mostly in the Middle East, where many countries still have laws that protect men who murder female relatives they believe have engaged in inappropriate activity. A U.N. report includes chilling examples of such cases.
“On the order of clerics, an 18-year-old woman was flogged to death in Batsail, Bangladesh, for "immoral behavior,” the report reads. “In Egypt, a father paraded his daughter's severed head through the streets shouting, ‘I avenged my honor.’”
But Islamic scripture in no way condones such actions, Carroll said.
"People have their own cultural nuances and norms from before they got their religion," he said. "This is not Islamic culture."

Primary school to serve pupils halal meat whether they're Muslim or not
All pupils at a primary school face being served halal meat at lunchtime whether they are Muslim or not, it emerged today.
Dale Primary, which has a large proportion of Asians among its 550 pupils, is consulting parents about the controversial move.
Under the plans pupils would only be offered Islamic-approved meals on days when meat is on the menu to 'avoid cross-contamination'.For meat to be classified halal, a Muslim must have slaughtered the animal from which it came by a single cut to the throat and without stunning it first.
A prayer, including the words 'Allah is great', is said while single cut to the throat all the blood is drained.
The school, Derby's biggest primary, provides its own catering after opting out of the city council system.
Head teacher Linda Sullivan has written to parents, carers and staff asking them if the school should offer halal meat to pupils.
Governors will consider the response before deciding whether to implement the plan.
A school spokeswoman said: 'The governors want to know if there is a strong demand as one or two parents have mentioned serving halal meat.
'The letter is asking for views and it's not a vote. If we were to change, it would probably be halal-only to avoid cross-contamination.
'The results of the survey will be going to the next governors' meeting for discussion.'
Local councillor Fareed Hussain, added: 'I think it is right that the governors should explore this but I think they need to listen to the responses carefully.
"If there are dissenting voices, I think they should consider giving a choice between halal meat or not because otherwise it will become a contentious issue.
'I know that places such as hospitals are able to offer either halal or non-halal dishes, so I can't see why the school couldn't accommodate that.'
Shabana Ayub, 30, a Muslim parent of two Dale Primary pupils, welcomed the idea of introducing halal meat but only if there were other menu options.
She said: 'I think it's a good idea because my children both like meat but they can't eat anything that's not halal.
'I think there needs to be other options because there are Hindu and Christian children who go to the school as well.'
Earlier this year parents hit out at Rose Hill Primary School in Oxford after it began serving halal meat without telling them.
Many of the complaints centred around the method of slaughter, which they claimed was cruel.
And last year parents staged protests outside a school over its decision to serve only halal meat at lunchtime.
Staff called the police after one father went into Kingsgate Primary in West Hampstead, north London, to challenge the new meals policy.
New Mexico-born Imam: Muslims should leave U.S., for "the punishment of Allah is hovering over America"
Brothers and Sisters this leads to the belief that the punishment of Allah is hovering over America. When? And how? Allah knows best.
So if you are one of those unfortunate folks who turned out to be living in the wrong place at the wrong time then it is advisable for you to leave. That is obviously if you take heed. Many don’t and are still living the utopia of the American dream. I am not talking about Mo and Mike who are still shaking to the tunes of MTV with their coke and big mac and are only Muslim by name, but I am talking about the practicing Muslims who sadly enough still think that the America of George W is the Abyssinia of the Negus.
Hijra [flight, emigration] for the sake of Allah will continue until the day of Judgment. If you leave with the intention of forsaking the people of sin and protecting your family from evil you would be rewarded abundantly. But not everyone has the capacity to make hijra just like there were some Muslims who could not make hijra from Makkah [Mecca] at the time of Rasulullah [Prophet of Allah, i.e., Muhammad]. So for those who cannot they should pray to Allah to make a way out for them and protect them from the people of transgression.
If you are a person whom Allah has bestowed wealth upon then you should avoid owning property in the US and you should diversify out of the dollar into gold and silver. Gold and silver have retained there value over history and there is no reason to think that they would not do the same in the future. In addition to this being the prudent thing to do from a financial point of view, it is also the recommended thing to do Islamicly. Muslims should not be supporting the economy of a nation that is fighting them.
Finally, for those who are contemplating purchasing a home in the US based on mortgage which is a clear form of Riba [usury] they should fear Allah. In addition to it being one of the most evil sins in Islam it is putting money in the wrong place. Allah says that He will destroy Riba. It is a promise from Allah. There is no blessing in anything based on it. What is happening in the US nowadays is a testimony to that....
Australia: Study finds most non-Muslims still unaware that Islam has its own set of rules
The findings emerged from a study commissioned by the federal government to develop better community-based integration programs.
The project focused on Muslims who have experienced racism since the 2005 Cronulla riots.
To determine social barriers, researchers interviewed a group of 10 Muslims who socialise predominantly with other Muslims. They also spoke to 10 non-Muslims from the Cronulla area who did not mix with Muslims.
Among the non-Muslims, it was not well-known that drinking alcohol is forbidden under Islam.
The concept of halal - denoting what is permissible under Islam - was also little understood.
Female Muslim interviewees said they could not understand how drinking by non-Muslims can be seen as responsible behaviour.
Their male counterparts said they would refuse invitations to events where alcohol was consumed to shield the women from it...

U.K.: Muslim prisoners get new clothes if cells are searched with dogs
"Muslim inmates get new clothes if dog sniffs cell."
Muslim prisoners are being given fresh clothes and bedding after sniffer dogs search their cells – because they view the animals as unclean.
The inmates say their bedclothes and prison uniforms must be changed according to Islamic law if they have come anywhere near dog saliva.
Government rules mean warders are having to hand out replacement sets after random drug searches to avoid religious discrimination claims.
The dogs have also been banned from touching copies of the Islamic holy book the Koran and other religious items.
Prisoners are handed special bags to protect the articles.
Now some staff and other prisoners are incensed by what they claim is special treatment.
A source at Dover prison said: “It seems ridiculous that staff have to go out of their way to treat these prisoners differently.
“Some of the other inmates are not happy that they have to make do with the same old bedding.”
John Midgley, co-founder of the Campaign Against Political Correctness, added: “If people think others are getting different treatment, they are bound to be upset. Perhaps the only fair way to do this is to allow everyone to have their bedding changed.”
Philip Davies, Tory MP for Shipley in Yorkshire, said: “Another way for people not to have their cells searched for drugs is not to commit crime in the first place. If you commit a crime and go to prison, there are certain things which you expect to happen.”
The jail policy emerged after an illegal immigrant awaiting deportation at Dover prison asked its bosses to clarify the rules on sniffer dog searches.
In reply to the letter in prisoners’ magazine Inside Time, the Ministry of Justice’s Rosemary Hanna wrote: “We are aware that if dog saliva comes in contact with the clothing or religious artefacts of a Muslim, it renders these items defiled. As such, a prisoner must be allowed to change clothing if this occurs.”
She added: “Dogs used to search cells should not be allowed to touch holy books and artefacts.
The prisoner should be allowed to identify and remove religious artefacts from their cell so that the supporting staff can search them by hand before the cell is searched. It is also good practice to issue prisoners with a clear plastic pouch to cover holy books and artefacts.
“Also, bedding should be changed where the prisoner feels that it has been defiled.”
A leading imam, Ibrahim Mogra, said the policy was “very sensitive and sensible”.
He said: “We would expect the religious requirements and needs of all our diverse religious communities to be accommodated.”
Just like Sharia law doesn't.
The row comes after some Muslims argued they should not be touched by sniffer dogs trained to spot terrorists at railway stations.
Last month it was revealed that the Association of Chief Police Officers proposed that police dogs wear bootees on their paws when searching Muslim suspects’ homes.
Islamic scholars denounce dancing, say it violates sharia
Marrakesh will host its first international salsa festival amid controversy as officials and religious leaders expressed dismay over the city’s hosting of a festival devoted to the sexy Latin dance.
The festival, which runs Oct. 8-12, features 100 dancers from Cuba, Mexico, Los Angeles, New York, Oslo, Milan, including Francisco Vasquez and Alex da Silva, choreographers for Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. The contestants will also give salsa classes to students of Moroccan universities.
But some locals voiced objections that the dance is un-Islamic and violates local social norms.
One Islamic scholar said the salsa festival violates sharia Islamic law. Mohamed Al-Taweel, pprofessor of jurisprudence at the University of al-Karaouine said that the festival is sinful for a number if reasons, no the least of which is the mingling between men and women.
Moroccan sheikh Abdul-Bari al-Zamzami, a member of the Moroccan Scholars Association, told AlArabiya.net that the festival promotes vice among the youth, who are easily deceived by such Western activities.
Other officials disagreed, however, noting that the festival promotes intercultural understanding and artistic expression.
"I do not think that the salsa festival has a negative impact on Morocco,” Nabil Benabdallah, a former minister of communication, told AlArabiya.net.
But Islamic preacher Mohamed al-Amrawi argued that activities which violate decency and promote vice among youth are prohibited by law.
"Moroccan youth should be trained in different scientific and creative fields,” he told AlArabiya.net
Besides promoting vice, Taweel said he also thinks the festival is an unnecessary waste of money, thrown away just to give the West the impression that Morocco is a liberal, accommodating country.

On Faith, Science and the E-Coli Bacteria in Infant Urine
Following are excerpts from a program featuring Dr. Ahmad Al-Muzain, a Palestinian expert on Koranic science, which aired on Al-Aqsa TV on September 3, 2008:
Dr. Ahmad Al-Muzain: The Prophet Muhammad said that there is no need to wash off the urine of the male infant. Only the urine of the female infant should be washed. In the case of the urine of the male infant, it is enough to sprinkle water lightly over it. From this, the religious scholars have concluded that the urine of the male is less impure than the urine of the female. This gives rise to many questions: Why is there a distinction between the urine of the male and the female? What is the wisdom in this? Is this, as some Orientalists claim, discrimination against the female, even in infancy? God forbid that this is true.
In order to prove the wisdom behind this, scientists from an Iraqi university have conducted a unique experiment. Of course, this experiment was supervised by a professor from the International Commission on Scientific Signs in the Quran and the Sunna.
This experiment proved that a type of bacteria known as E. coli - and you can see a picture of this bacteria behind me... We found this type of bacteria in the urine culture of both male and female infants. What was strange, however, was that the urine of the male infant contained much fewer bacteria than that of the female.
This proves unequivocally that this is the true religion, and that this knowledge was conveyed to the Prophet by Allah.
I really love the muslim world. They are very entertaining.
"Hezbollah Brigades of Palestine": the latest manifestation of jihad in Palestine
The group issued a statement Saturday describing itself as a "Sunni Jihad group which has nothing to do with politics" made up of "former members of Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and leftist parties" whose goal is to "carry out Jihad for the sake of Allah and resist enemies of Islam," the Israeli Web site DEBKAfile.com reported.
Unnamed sources told the Web site the Lebanese Hezbollah is behind the new group, saying it aims to lure members of all the established Palestinian terrorist groups on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip for ad hoc operations against Israel.
DEBKAfile.com said unnamed Israeli counter-terrorism officials believe Hezbollah issued the statement to counter a warning from Brig. Gaby Eisenkott of the Israeli Defense Forces that any new Hezbollah rocket attacks would result in the destruction of Shiite villages in southern Lebanon.
TURKEY: CAMEL WRESTLING SEASON OPENS
Traditional camel wrestling, held in the Western Turkey city of Aydin since 200 years, will begin the new season on November 30, Turkish Daily News writes. Income from the fights, held in special arenas created by municipality supported provinces, will be spent on social support initiatives such as the restoration of mosques and schools and for the benefit of local sports clubs. A reasonable share of the revenue will be given to the Aydin Society for the Preservation of Animal Rights. Camel wrestling is an event in which two male camels fight in response to a female camel in heat left in front them.
Male camels head butt each other until one is knocked out.

Saudi cleric favours one-eye veil
Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan said showing both eyes encouraged women to use eye make-up to look seductive.
The question of how much of her face a woman should cover is a controversial topic in many Muslim societies.
The niqab is more common in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, but women in much of the Muslim Middle East wear a headscarf which covers only their hair.
Sheikh Habadan, an ultra-conservative cleric who is said to have wide influence among religious Saudis, was answering questions on the Muslim satellite channel al-Majd.

Kuwait Human Rights Society demands that YouTube erase "anti-Islam" material
Urging the authorities to take the necessary legal action in case the website fails to erase the statements, Al-Damkhi stressed “uttering profanities against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the worst form of human rights violation in the world. Attacks on the values and tenets of Islam are extremely dangerous and unacceptable.”
Al-Damkhi pointed out the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) strongly condemns attacks on the holy prophets and religions. He confirmed KHRS recognizes the importance of freedom of conducting scientific research, exchange of information, and significance of the latest technologies and media on human lives, but it is against how ‘YouTube’ depicts Islam. He said this is an outright violation of the human rights of millions of Muslims all over the world.
That is, material that reports accurately about Islamic teachings and Muslims acting upon those teachings. "Uttering profanities against Prophet Muhammad (PissBeUponHim) is the worst form of human rights violation in the world." Worse than murder. Worse than slavery. Worse than torture. Worse than genocide. You know the things that muslims don't find to be against human rights.
"Achmed the Dead Terrorist" banned in South Africa as offensive to Muslims
It's no laughing matter.
Funnyman ventriloquist Jeff Dunham is fuming after a ringtone advertisement based on his popular comedy skit, "Achmed the Dead Terrorist," was scrubbed from South African TV because it mocks Islam.
The ringtone was taken from a puppet routine performed by Dunham, a native Texan, in a TV special on Comedy Central. A 10-minute clip of the comedian's routine that was posted on YouTube has been viewed more than 66 million times since April.
But the government of South Africa doesn't think it's funny. According to iafrica.com, South Africa's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled that a GloMobile ringtone commercial featuring Dunham and his puppet was offensive to Muslims.
The commercial depicts Dunham holding his skeletal puppet, Achmed, dressed with a white cloth around his head and demanding that the audience keep quiet, uttering, "Silence! I will kill you!"
ASA officials said a South African man, Moegamat Khan, had filed a complaint that the commercial was offensive to the Islamic religion and created an impression that all Muslims were terrorists.
Questions: Have you ever seen a Muslim spokesman say, "Hey, we really liked this anti-terror presentation"? Have you ever seen a Muslim spokesman say, "Hey, we really liked this anti-terror presentation because it stated that not all Muslims are terrorists"? Have you ever seen a Muslim spokesman react to an anti-terror presentation without saying that it gave the impression that all Muslims were terrorists, even when the presentation in question explicitly denied that all Muslims were terrorists -- as does Obsession?
And the ASA agreed. "To associate this divine inspiration to a terrorist is offensive to the people who believe in [Muhammad]," the authority ruled. Muslims make up 2 percent of South Africa's population.
But Dunham begs to differ. In a statement to FOXNews.com, he said: "Achmed makes it clear in my act that he is not Muslim, so I'm sorry the gentleman Khan didn't see my entire show.
"I've skewered whites, blacks, Hispanics, Christians, Jews, Muslims, gays, straights, rednecks, addicts, the elderly, and my wife. As a standup comic, it is my job to make the majority of people laugh, and I believe that comedy is the last true form of free speech."...
So, Ashmed is not a muslim? Sure and pigs fly.

Secularism is as foreign to Islamic theory as is Sharia law to Americans
The distinction between the City of God and the City of Man laid the foundation for the Catholic Church’s cession of temporal power to the emerging European state, which in turn placed limits upon the Church’s temporal response to the Reformation...
Now it may be true, from the point of view of Christianity, that the modern understanding of secularism has taken the distinction between the City of God and the City of Man too far. Thus the continuous debate in America on the proper role of religion in the public sphere. But at the very least, Christians have a history that requires them to grapple with secularism as something of their own kin. Secularism cannot be completely rejected as “other,” as an imposition of a rival faith.
The situation is much different for Muslims. Islamic theory describes a proper ordering of the civil community. Secularism is as foreign to Islamic theory as is Sharia law to Americans. Thus it was surprising when Prime Minister Blair, at his talk last weekend, suggested a parallel between tensions relating to Ireland in Great Britain and the tensions in the Middle East. Tensions in the Middle East are only partially caused by internal sectarian conflict. They are also caused, and perhaps to a much larger extent, by the prospect of globalization.
Globalization does not simply mean the development of third-world countries, the spread of efficient communication and transportation systems, or the increasing mobility of capital. Rather, globalization also entails the progress of Western ideals, secularism foremost among them. While it is possible, therefore, that globalization will strengthen Christian faith, it is not possible for it to strengthen Muslim faith.
The muslims do not want people to live in a civilized mannor. They prefer the seventh century.
How To Identify A Terrorist
The manual, developed by France, Germany and Austria, includes signs that may indicate that a prisoner was becoming radicalized, including the presence of a growing beard. A prison group feared the manual could stigmatize Muslim inmates.
The document was distributed at a two-day closed-door conference of European security experts that ended Wednesday. It will be given to prison personnel.
Prisons "can be a facilitator and an accelerator" of radicalization and inmates are often "strongly destabilized" and therefore malleable, said Christophe Chaboud, head of France's Anti-Terrorist Coordination Unit.
"It is not a question of religion but of confrontation with the West," Chaboud said in a telephone interview.
Islam is the second-largest religion in France and, while there are no official figures available, Muslims make up a large part of the inmate population — the majority in some prisons.
A disproportionate number of Muslims can be found in prisons in other European Union countries.
France began massive arrests of Islamic militants linked to insurgents in Algeria after deadly bombings in subways and elsewhere that began in 1995 and terrorized the nation.
But it was only in 2004 that authorities began to act on the simmering threat posed by jailed extremists looking to turn even non-practicing Muslim inmates into radicals and recruit for their cause
