Iran to Change Law to Allow Men to Take More Than One Wife Without Permission From Wife

Of course the women in Iran are none too happy. This will undermine women's rights. The government is trying to enshrine its strict islamic interpretation into law.

As it is now, a man may have upto four wives, and endless slaves, in many middle eastern countries. Very few of these countries require the consent of the first wife. Actually polygamy is rare in Iran. Most people frown upon the practice.

Iran is a very strict muslim country. Women are required to wear headscarves and conservative clothing. She needs her husband's permission to work or travel abroad. Oh, a man's testimony in court is the same as that of two women. You see women are hormonal and may be emotional. So one woman would be able to remind the other if she is mistaken.

Ahmadinejad came to power to bring back "islamic values" that were eroded by the last president. I guess there are varying degrees of islam. Much like any other religion. The only problem with this so called religion is that the hardliners play a hardball like not other religion. You leave islam, you are to be killed. You cannot challenge any doctrine of islam, if you do you die. You do not see that with any other religion. So, it is very hard for the so called moderates to take charge. If they try they get dead.
