Somali Muslims Changing Small Tennessee Town

It has been nearly 20 years since Somalia
last had a functioning government. Islamic Jihadists now control most of the country – and sharia is the law of the land. Tens of thousands of Somali refugees have resettled in America in recent years to escape the chaos of their homeland, which is located in the Horn of Africa.

But the transition isn't going smoothly in one small town
.

At first glance, Shelbyville is your typical sleepy southern hamlet. It's nestled in middle Tennessee, where the walking horse is king.

There's Main St., the local sheriff, a movie theatre. It's all very "Mayberry," except for one big difference: the recent arrival of hundreds of Somali Muslims.

Small Town Having Difficulties

Shelbyville is about an hour's drive from Nashville, in the heart of the Bible Belt. Like many Americans, the citizens of Shelbyville knew little about Somalia other than the 1993 Black Hawk Down incident, in which 18 U.S. servicemen were killed while battling warlords and Islamic Jihadists in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

So when hundreds of Somalis began turning up in the town – many of them dressed in traditional Islamic garb – locals quickly took notice.

"They've had an impact here. Unfortunately, it's not been a good impact," said Brian Mosely, a reporter for the local Shelbyville Times-Gazette.

Mosely won an award from the Associated Press for a series of articles he wrote for the paper about Shelbyville's Somalis.

"I found that there was just an enormous culture clash going on here," he said. "The Somalis were – according to a lot of the people I talked to here – were being very, very rude, inconsiderate, very demanding. They would go into stores and haggle over prices. They would also demand to see a male salesperson, would not deal with women in stores"

Different People, Different Culture

"Their culture is totally alien to anything the residents are used to," Mosely added.

The problems extend to local schools – where some Somali students won't talk to female administrators. There have also been issues with local law enforcement.

"I'm not really sure whether that is because of experiences with the police in their country, or whether that's just the way their culture is," said Shelbyville's Police Chief, Austin Swing.

Shelbyville is home to about 17,000 people. The town's Somali population is estimated to be between 400 and 1,000.

Mosely says the Somalis have isolated themselves from the rest of the community.

"We're talking about people who have not had any experience with Western civilization," he explained. "They don't know the language. Things like running water are a miracle to some of these folks…you don't take people from a totally alien culture, put them into a community, and then say 'alright, you must get along.'”

Little Chance to Adapt

Abdirizak Hassan is the director of the Somali Community Center in nearby Nashville. He says the state of Tennessee has no programs to help immigrants integrate into their new surroundings.

"They come, and the only thing they can do is go to work, and then after work they go back to the apartment," Hassan said. "They're totally isolated and there's no interaction between them and the locals."

He added that some have even expressed a desire to return to Somalia.

"A lot of them face eviction. They put them in an apartment complex that costs $600 a month. They can't get a job that gives them that much money," Hassan explained.

"And sometimes you have families, like, a single mother with eight kids, or seven kids or six kids, and you expect her to go to work in six months time with no English, no driver's skills, nothing? I mean, sometimes it's impossible."

"The locals, mostly, when they see a few hundred people in their backyard with a different look, strangers, you know, of course they have the right to be concerned," he added. "But I think if the local authorities and organizations like ours do a lot of outreach, I think we can bridge the gap."

So how did so many Somalis end up in rural Shelbyville? The answer can be complicated.

Taken in by the U.S.

The State Department helps resettle refugees from war-torn countries like Somalia in the United States. The resettlement project is one part of a taxpayer-funded refugee aid program with a billion dollar budget.

Immigrants are chosen from UN refugee camps. The selected refugees then undergo a few days of cultural orientation and are soon on their way to America.

Although most of the refuges are repatriated to their home countries, the U.S. takes in more refugees than any other nation – with a cap of about 80,000 this year.

"What we do is we look at the most vulnerable groups of refugees," said Todd Pierce of the State Department's Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration. "One group we've tried to help is Iraqi Christians and those who've worked with U.S. and Coalition forces."

Pierce said the resettlement program helps improve America's image in the eyes of the world.

"It's one of the best facets of America, that we are a very generous, hospitable country," he said. "This is something that has been bipartisan for decades now – we've brought people in….we look at Africa, we look at the Middle East, we look at Southeast Asia."

A Rocky Transition?

More than 150,000 Somalis now live in the U.S., most in larger cities like Minneapolis, Nashville, Boston, Seattle and Columbus, Ohio.

Gang activity has been a major concern. And according to the U.S. government, at least a dozen young Somali Americans have returned home in recent months to join an al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group called al-Shabab.

As a result, the FBI is conducting investigations in several cities with large Somali populations. The fear is that the Somalis will return to America and put their terror training to use on U.S. soil.

Pierce says the government tries to shut any potential troublemakers out of the refugee resettlement program.

"We work closely with the Department of Homeland Security to make sure we vet people coming here, especially since 9/11. It's very important," he said.

Motivated by Jobs

"Our experience has been that refugees are very successful at resettling," said Holly Johnson of the Tennessee Office of Refugees.

Johnson said the federal government contracts with social welfare groups at the local level to help set the refugees up in apartments, find them jobs and ease their transition to America.

"They are completely self sufficient, usually within four months," she said. "They arrive here with nothing but a duffel bag of clothes, and they're on their own, paying their bills, children are attending school, they know where their doctor's office is within a few months."

After a few months in their settlement cities, the refugees are free to move around the country and live wherever they please.

Enter Shelbyville

Somalis in other cities were drawn to Shelbyville by the jobs offered at the local Tyson chicken processing plant.

The plant came under fire from the Department of Justice in 2001 for hiring illegal Hispanic immigrants.

The large influx of Somalis has only added to locals' frustration with the plant and the government.

"We've had three major industries shut down here and 700 to 800 people have lost their jobs," Mosely said. "They're trying to find anything they can, and then – as they see it –the government is shipping people from overseas to come here and take their jobs."

Getting Past Controversy

Despite locals' continued complaints over its hiring practices, Tyson says it is doing things by the book. A Tyson spokesman said the company is following federal employment guidelines – and that the majority of its employees are local residents.

The Tyson plant generated national controversy last fall when it dropped Labor Day as a paid holiday in favor of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr.

The decision was later reversed, but longtime local residents say the incident was symbolic of the larger changes taking place in Shelbyville – changes they are coping with as best they can.

"We're probably as culturally diversified as any small town in America." said Chief Swing. "There's been a lot of changes. But I think most people just take it in stride and keep going along with it."

I have personal experience with this in my apartment complex in Phoenix, AZ. Our apartment manager has found out that the refugee center will pay for their rent for upto six months. We have every imaginable group that hate each other here now. We have a group of Somalis in the back of the complex, Iraqi shias up front by me. Hindus, Bangladeshis, etc. All the illegal mexicans have left. Now no one knows what languages are being spoken. One Iraqi was robbed in broad daylight by three "black men of unknown orgin", sure. They were the sunni Somalis from the back. This was at five o'clock in the afternoon. Guns and all. Let me tell you, sure they know where their doctors are, the schools, I am not sure about. Their kids run around all day every day. I do not believe that they are in school. I do know that they have social security cards and everything. I have seen them in the hands of these refugees. It is like the god damned UN around here. I for one am not pleased. Oh well, when the money runs out, the management does throw them out.

America's Costly Halal Food

WASHINGTON — Though they concern themselves with eating halal food, American Muslims are finding it difficult to get affordable foodstuff to cater to their needs with the skyrocketing prices of Shari`ah-compliant items.

"The concept of halal food is costly," Tariq Javid, a manager at a local restaurant in Virginia, told IslamOnline.net while shopping at a halal grocery store.

"If someone is selling halal food cheap, I will think, it’s not halal."

Muslims should only eat meat from livestock slaughtered by a sharp knife from their necks, and the name of Allah, the Arabic word for God, must be mentioned.

Like fellow Muslims nationwide, finding low-priced halal food items costs Nafees Syed, a 27-year-old mother, a lot of time and effort.

"I am buying stuff other than meat and chicken from American stores like Giant, Shoppers etc., comparatively cheap, but I must buy meat and chicken from halal store," she said while shopping at the grocery store.

According to a survey by the New York¬-based advertising agency J. Walter Thompson on Muslim shopping trends, 44 percent of Muslim-Americans feel that halal food products available do not meet their needs.

Syed Sultan Ahmad, a Pakistani who worked as butcher for the past nine years, has an explanation for the costliness of the halal meat.

He says that special arrangements are needed to slaughter the animals according to Shari`ah.

"Special and trained and Muslim work force for this purpose is also costly and limited."

Ahmad says that stores also raise the prices to make up for the cost of ordering food from distant places, sometimes in other states.

"We are ordering our halal meat and chicken from Noor Halal Slaughter House in Pennsylvania," he noted.

A Must

But no matter how difficult it is to get affordable halal food, Muslims insist that it is worth the trouble.

"Being a Muslim mother this is my duty to feed my kids with halal food," says Mrs. Nafees.

"It is not possible for Muslim to follow Islam having haram (unlawful) food in their stomach."

Rab Nawaz, a butcher in the same halal grocery store where the Muslim mother was shopping, asserts that her stance matches that of many customers who come to the store.

"For American-Muslims it is a must to buy halal food, otherwise they object."

Sales of halal food are maintaining a slow but steady increase nationwide.

According to the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA), 90 percent of America's estimated seven million Muslims would want to purchase only meat that has been slaughtered by a Halal-certified butcher if it were widely available.

The Chicago-based research firm Mintel International Group estimates that approximately 5 percent of those who limit foods for religious reasons only eat foods that are Halal.

Javid, the Virginia restaurant manager, says that while American Muslims want to eat halal food, there must be ways to help them get it at affordable prices.

"There should be a price check, there should be no expire products in the stores and if some are violating the rules, there should be strict actions against them."

Yet, being an observant Muslim, Javid also agrees that till these problems are solved, he has no other option but to hunt for affordable halal food products.

"We must buy it, no matter how much costly it is."

The West went out of its way to make the slaughter of animals as humane as possible. Now here come the muslims that want them to bleed to death. A very slow death. Isn't allah a wonderful concept? Of course muslims must have "special" food.

Illegal immigrant raped teenage girl in alleyway

An Afghan man who came to this country illegally, attacked and raped a Kenilworth teenager in an alleyway just hours after arriving in the town.

Rapist Jawid Armani was caught soon after the attack on the 16-year-old girl as she was walking home at 1.30am in the morning on March 14.And a judge at Warwick Crown Court heard that the 32-year-old Afghan is wanted for questioning by Thames Valley police over a similar attack on a girl in that force's area.

Armani, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty through an interpreter to two charges of raping the Kenilworth girl.

Prosecutor Iain Willis said the attack took place in a dark alleyway in Kenilworth as the girl was walking home at 1.30am after a night out with friends.

She was attacked from behind by Armani who forced her to perform an act of oral sex on him, which is also classed as rape, before he proceeded to rape her.

Afterwards the girl fled from the alleyway and raised the alarm with someone who lived nearby.

The traumatised girl described her attacker and Armani was found and arrested a short time later.

Armani said he had travelled to the UK in a lorry and had only been in the country for 48 hours when he got out in Kenilworth.

He claimed he could not remember what had happened because he was very drunk at the time.

And Mr Willis revealed: "The defendant is suspected of having committed similar offences in the Thames Valley area, and is to be arrested on those matters."He suggested that sentencing of Armani should be adjourned for two months to allow the Thames Valley matters to be investigated.

Armani's barrister Lawrence Watts, who asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on him, agreed.

Judge Christopher Hodson adjourned the case until May for the report and for the Thames Valley investigation to be completed, and remanded Armani in custody.

He raped a white woman because he is a muslim and she is not. She was fair game to him because Old Mo said so in the koran, the terrorist training manual. Read koran, become muslim equals terrorist. Everytime.

Seven Myths About Islam Part 4

4. The myth: “The Quran challenged mankind to produce a chapter like it, and they all failed.”

The fact: There are many texts on the internet which are indistinguishable from the Quran.

Any Arab with enough courage and reasonable command of the Arabic language can meet the challenge and win, and that includes the devout Muslims who would say: “NO this is impossible!” It is easy to compose a text that is indistinguishable from to the Quran; it is even easier to include a number of language and scientific mistakes for a more honest imitation to the Quran. But sensible people do not risk their lives; we know how Muslims would react. The Arab Muslims do not even try because they know how Allah would react.

This reminds me with an incident that took place many years ago when I was a young Muslim. I was visiting a friend who was already arguing with one of his relatives about a verse in the Quran, they were trying to find to which sura the verse belongs. I happened to know that the verse was at the end of chapter 2 (sura Albakara), which was correct as my friend’s relative double checked it in the Quran. I was happy and proud with my knowledge, and both my friend and his relative were impressed. Still browsing through the Quran, my friend’s relative challenged me to locate the following verse:

Q.115: 1 “O ye people! Fear Allah your Lord, who created you, and fashioned you (perfectly) and provided for you, that ye may have the chance to learn righteousness; If He so will, He can make you victorious…”

I didn’t know, but I knew from the style that the verse had a Medina style and must belong to one of the big chapters in the Quran. Although I wasn’t sure, my answer was that the above verse also belongs to chapter 2 (sura albakara). My friend’s relative broke into laughter because the verse was not even in the Quran, it was made up. My happiness and pride instantly evaporated, but the practical joke unleashed the Islamic monster inside me. I became angry and insisted that the false verse was obviously of very low standard compared to the Quran and I blamed the Satan for my failure in spotting the difference.

Some Arabs must have produced works that mimicked the Quran, but those who were lucky to survive, were forced to condemn their own works, which eventually disappeared from history. The problem is that Muslims have already made a prejudgement not to believe that any work can match the Quran.

It is noteworthy that the great Arab poets like Almutanabbi and Al maarri composed their own Quranic texts, which of course disappeared from history. I am a fan of Almutanabbi and can imagine how powerful his Quran would have been compared to the existing one. Nowadays, interested Arab atheists frequently post their own imitations on the Internet (4) (5).


The idea of a competition between Allah and one of his creatures in a language issue is ridiculous and is enough, on its own, to damage Islam. The non Arabs should be able to sense some foul racist smell in this challenge because they have been totally excluded from this competition game; Allah seems to play only with the Arabs!

Rape victim converts to Islam to marry Muslim who raped her and thus end social stigma

Either that or else she is being coerced by the rapist's mother to marry him so he can get out of jail. "Rape victim converts to Islam to marry accused," from Hindustan Times, March 27:

A rape victim has told a city court that she wants to marry her violator. Almost four years after Sheila was allegedly raped by Ali (both names changed), she has converted to Islam and is ready to accept him as her husband.

She told the court that her marriage to Ali was necessary to end the social stigma she faced since 2005.

The drama unfolded on Thursday in the court of Additional Sessions Judge V.K. Khanna during the hearing of the bail plea of Ali.

Sheila, who had earlier identified the accused and deposed against him in court, pleaded that after registration of the case in 2005, people in her locality were constantly maligning the image of her family. “The rape case has made my life hell and jeopardised my future prospects of leading a happy married life. I want to marry Ali, as our marriage would end my ordeal,” Sheila told the court.She even requested the court to release the accused on bail, so he could marry her.

But the prosecution vehemently opposed Ali’s bail plea. Maintaining that rape was not a compoundable offence, the public prosecutor said it was simply a ploy of the accused to escape punishment.

The court dismissed Ali's bail plea saying rape was a criminal case and the accused should be punished for the crime. “The mother of the accused had approached the victim and put pressure on her for the marriage. It is a ploy to organise a false marriage ceremony to get the accused out of the jail,” said advocate Banju, who is associated with the Rape Crisis Cell, Delhi Commission of Women.

The accused has now filed another application requesting the court to allow him marry the victim in judicial custody.

What could they have possibly done to this poor girl to get her to convert and ask to marry the guy who raped her? One can only guess in the demented world of islam.

Shocker: Hamas continues to smuggle arms into Gaza

Imagine if Islamic states had put this amount of effort and resources over the past 61 years into developing Gaza and the West Bank. They could have created the equivalent of a Monaco or Dubai in those areas. Instead, they've opted for perpetual warfare, squalor, and -- as detailed below -- lots and lots of dynamite.

Hamas continues to smuggle weaponry into the Gaza Strip, Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) head Yuval Diskin told the cabinet during Sunday's weekly meeting.

Since Operation Cast Lead ended, Diskin said, 22 tons of dynamite were smuggled into Gaza. Forty-five tons of raw material used to produce dynamite, dozens of rockets, hundreds of mortar shells and anti-aircraft shoulder missiles also made their way to the Strip, he said.

Diskin told the cabinet that Egypt was making inroads in its effort to curb arms smuggling through the Gaza-Egypt border, but that Hamas still succeeded in bringing large quantities of weapons into the Strip.

Terror groups in the Gaza Strip were planning to carry out another kidnapping attempt, Diskin warned.

He added that there has been an increase in the efforts of small splinter groups to carry out attacks inside Israel, either by infiltrating through Sinai or by orchestrating local efforts in the West Bank.

In his weekly outline to the cabinet, the last given to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's government before Likud head Binyamin Netanyahu presents his government on Tuesday, Diskin said that Hamas was afraid of an escalation in violence with Israel, especially after the negotiations to conduct a prisoner exchange and reconciliation talks between Hamas and Fatah both failed to yield results.

Hamas's interest remains rebuilding the Gaza Strip and replenishing their weapons caches, Diskin said. The Islamic group is deliberating whether to renew terrorism in full force or to rally support from the residents of Gaza in the hope of influencing the world into action by holding mass protests, he added....

Israel needs to just expell every arab from its rightful territory, Gaza, Judea, Sumarea and all of Israel. Push them out and keep them out with all the force they can possible muster.

Muslim lawyer: "Sharia will be implemented in Pakistan, it will be implemented in India and Bangladesh and even down the road in Downing Street"

London, Mar. 29 (ANI): Brushing aside the Scotland Yard probe into his inflammatory speeches, the controversial Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary has warned that Britain would become a Sharia state soon.

"Let me tell you something the Sharia will be implemented in Pakistan, it will be implemented in India and Bangladesh and even down the road in Downing Street. There is nothing to stop me calling for a Sharia state," the Sunday Express quoted Choudary, as telling his followers in London.

The London-born lawyer, who in his youth was a cider-drinking ladies man, further said that Muslims around the world would rise and eventually conquer the White House.

Astonishingly, he compared himself to Noah from the Old Testament in one ranting outburst.

"People said look at that man building that boat in the mountain. Now they say look at that lunatic calling for the Sharia in Britain they say the same thing," he said in a voice rising with passion and vigor.

Choudary also included ex-US President Nixon in his rant.

"President Nixon once said if the Muslims in the Asian continent gathered together they would be a superpower. There are more than one billion in the Indian sub-continent … if they woke up," he said.

Scotland Yard reportedly is investigating him for allegedly saying homosexuals should be stoned to death.

Choudary, however, denied the allegations.

"That allegation about stoning is not true and I am complaining to the Press Complaints Commission. It is all fabrication. If I was supporting terrorists, do you think I would be here, and I would have a beard," he said.

Tory MP and homeland security expert Patrick Mercer called for Scotland Yard to look at Choudarys latest speech too.

His comments sound like sedition to me. The police should look very carefully at his words to see if he has broken the law. Victims of the 7/7 bombing will, I am sure, be hugely upset by what sounds like sedition, he said. (ANI)

The West needs to wake up. The muslims are telling us what they are planning on and we just ignore them or say "those are just a small group or extremists." This is how they all think. WAKE UP!!!!!

Does "Islamophobia" exist? Nope

In "Islamophobia is a fabrication" in the Sydney Morning Herald, March 30 (thanks to JE), Paul Sheehan tells the truth about the manipulative neologism "Islamophobia":

I've been considering a request from a post-graduate student who wants to do a thesis on Islamophobia in Australia. She writes: "I am researching the topic Islamophobia, and I am trying to prove whether Islamophobia is based on religion fear or cultural fear of Islam."

What about proving that Islamophobia exists at all? That would be the logical, ethical and scholarly starting point. But it appears the outcome has already been decided. This would fit the prevailing orthodoxy in academia that the default position for Muslims in Australia is victim. The jargon, "Islamophobia" is part of this ideological construct. Literally, it means fear of Muslims.

I reflected on all this while on holiday in Malaysia and the Maldives last week. This was my twelfth visit to Muslim societies because I do not "fear" Muslims and do not "fear" Islam. Yes, there is ample evidence that Australians have become uneasy about Muslims in general and hostile in specific cases, but this is about cause and effect.

Consider the series of blows to the image of Muslims in just the past three weeks, where the everyday decency of the majority have been collaterally damaged by the antics of the few.

On March 8, the night of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, police say a group of about 100 young Muslim men, allegedly members of a loose gang called MBM - Muslim Brotherhood Movement - moved through the centre of the city intimidating, harassing and beating bystanders.

On March 15, Abdul Darwiche was murdered, shot to death in a shopping centre in the latest hyper-violence involving two warring Lebanese Muslim clans. Police later arrested Darwiche's brother, Michael, for driving around with a loaded pistol. A third brother, Adnan, appeared in the NSW Supreme Court three years ago to be sentenced for a double murder. He and his fellow accused, Nasaem El-Zeyat and Ramzi Aouad, laughed and joked, going out of their way to express their contempt for Australian law. After the three men were all given life sentences they shouted "God is great!" This was the same Adnan Darwiche who purchased rocket launchers stolen from the Australian Army, which have never been recovered.

Hundreds of mourners attended Abdul Darwiche's funeral at the Lakemba Mosque, where, within days, Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly was involved in yet another controversy. Channel Nine obtained a copy of a video surveillance tape which shows the former mufti of Australia kicking in a door, then returning soon after in the company of police. Apparently he called police over vandalism which he committed, blaming others who are engaged in a power struggle at the mosque. Sheik Hilaly has been embroiled repeatedly in controversy and provocation, making numerous inflammatory remarks about Australia and Australians.

A few days later, yet another rape sentence was handed down to one of the K brothers, three of whom, during their various trials for gang rape, claimed they were victims of an anti-Muslim conspiracy. Between them, four K brothers have been convicted of gang-raping five girls.

This sentencing followed closely on the conviction of seven Sydney schoolboys for the aggravated sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in a toilet block in Yagoona in 2007. According to police, the ring-leader was on his phone speaking in Arabic during the assaults and most or all of the boys are of Muslim background.

If this is so, these latest convictions produce a morbid tally of more than 30 young Muslim men involved in serious proven sexual assaults of non-Muslim girls in Sydney, involving the Skaf brothers, the K brothers, the E-M cousins, the Yagoona schoolboys and various others. Because sexual assault is the least reported crime (about 15 per cent of incidents are reported to police) this particular phenomenon was certainly much broader. [...]

Given the abundant evidence of violent cause and fearful effect, involving a small percentage of antagonists, the general charge of Islamophobia is an ideological fabrication....

I do not fear any muslim. I hate them. I detest them. I personally think that they all should be killed. That is the only way that the West will safe from the jihad that islam is currently waging against us.

‘Drones hit Iran convoys’

Israel used unmanned drones to attack clandestine Iranian convoys in Sudan that were attempting to smuggle rockets into Gaza, Britain’s Sunday Times newspaper reported.

The paper said that Western diplomats confirmed that Israel attacked the Iranian truck convoys in late January and the first week of February in the remote Sudan desert, just outside the Red Sea town of Port Sudan. The convoys had been tracked by agents from Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence agency, the report added.

The Sudanese government said this week it was investigating the possibility that Israel was behind the deadly air strikes, but so far had found no proof. Foreign ministry spokesman Ali Sadiq said there were two separate bombing raids against smugglers, killing about 40 people.

The Sunday Times said that had the rockets been delivered to Hamas, the militant Islamic group that controls Gaza, they would have raised the stakes in the conflict with Israel.

It quoted defence sources as saying the convoys were carrying Fajr-3 rockets, which have a range of more than 65km, and were split into sections to be smuggled through tunnels into Gaza from Egypt. “They built the Fajr in parts so it would be easy to smuggle them into Gaza, then reassemble them with Hamas experts who learnt the job in Syria and Iran,” a source told the paper. The main reason for using drones instead of manned aircraft to attack was that a convoy forms a “slippery” target, a source said.

Maimed 10-year-old angry at Israel over cluster bombs

HILTA: From his hospital room in the Marjayoun Public Hospital, 10-year-old Mohammad Jamal Abdel- Aal says he will not forgive nor forget Israel for ripping off his limbs. Abdel-Aal's left leg and right hand got amputated on Sunday after a cluster bomb, left over from the summer 2006 war with Israel, exploded while he was playing in one of the fields near his home in the southern town of Hilta.

"I am not able to play anymore," Abdel-Aal told The Daily Star on Sunday.

In the last 72 hours of the 34-day July-August war, Israel dropped around four million cluster bombs all across southern Lebanon. The main concentration of unexploded ordinance is found in villages and fields north of the Littani River.

Recalling the few minutes that preceded the explosion, Abdel-Aal said that he had gone out to a field near his house, "to take advantage of the spring time weather."

"I was walking between the yellow daisies when I heard and explosion and felt my body was being ripped apart," he said, adding that he started feeling pain in his leg and was bleeding everywhere. "Then everything turned black."

Sure he was walking between daisies. He was out looking for the bomblets. The arabs are always good at propoganda.

Director of the Marjayoun Hospital, physician Mouenes Kalakesh, explained that what preoccupied him the most in Abdel-Aal's case is that the wound was going to "affect his life forever."

"The psychological repercussions are not to be neglected," he added, "they are the most important."

In a room next to Abdel-Aaal's, 16-year-old Riad al-Ahmad is recovering from a landmine explosion that cost him a leg. Israel's 22-year occupation (1978-2000) of south Lebanon left the area infested with landmines. A landmine exploded while Ahmad was herding his sheep in one of the fields of the southern village of Wazanni.

"Israelis want to kill us so we don't confront them," Ahmad's mother said.

On Friday, United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Michael Williams urged Israel to provide maps indicating the location of cluster bombs in south Lebanon to facilitate demining operations. He noted that Israel has ignored previous requests to hand over the maps.

Development and Liberation bloc MP Anwar al-Khalil said he hoped that the Cabinet would prioritize the issue of unexploded ordnance dropped by Israel. Talking during a political gathering in his hometown of Hasbaya, Khalil urged the Cabinet to commit to the clause on unexploded ordnance in the ministerial statement.

He also called on the government to launch a global political and media campaign, and organize an international conference to support demining efforts.

Knoxville: Mosque demands that nearby restaurant not sell alcohol

Stealth jihad in Knoxville: mosque attempts to impose Islamic restrictions on alcohol upon non-Muslims.

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Plans are underway to open a new restaurant in a Fort Sanders neighborhood building that has sat empty for years. Its owner wants to serve alcohol, and that's a problem for members of the Muslim Community of Knoxville nearby.

The two buildings are 191 feet apart. The mosque is at 100 13th Street and the restaurant would be at 1105 Forest Avenue.

According to a Knoxville city ordinance, beer can't be sold within 300 feet of a house of worship. But as it turns out, there are other laws that make the issue more complicated.

"We assumed that in Knoxville, all houses of worship would have some sort of buffer," Nadeem Siddiqi says.

The Corleone family had a lot of buffers, but do houses of worship really need them?

Siddiqi is talking about the building being renovated behind Annoor Mosque. It was once an eyesore.

In another month, it may become home to "The Hill," a restaurant that serves alcohol and has music and dancing.

"We're trying to promote some conservative behavior to some degree, and being right next to a nightclub seems like a bad location for us," Siddiqi says.

Memo to Mr. Siddiqi: it is not "conservative" to try to compel your non-Muslim neighbors to abide by Islamic law. Also, many conservatives, in fact, drink alcohol.

Still, construction continues on the restaurant.

The owner, Trevor Hill, says he doesn't see any problem with the location. He's applied for a beer permit and liquor license and he intends to have a large menu.

"I want to feed the community. We are providing a service to the Fort Sanders community and we have a good blue plate, a good cheap lunch and dinner," Hill says.

The city won't issue a beer permit if the restaurant in question is within 300 feet of a church and in this situation, the restaurant is less than 200 feet from the mosque and community center.

But if the state issues a liquor license, it's a different story.

A city ordinance reads that the distance requirement is void if the restaurant receives a state license for liquor by the drink. The state does not have a distance requirement.

"They're entitled to their opinion, and I am in compliance with the codes and laws of the state of Tennessee and Knox County so I don't know what else to do," Hill says.

Good. Stand your ground!

He plans to hire 50 employees and open his doors in early April. By that time, he hopes to have a liquor license in hand.

The beer board deferred approval for a permit for The Hill Tuesday night as it has several times.

Beer Board Chairman Steve Hall says the board isn't going to make a decision about giving the owner a beer permit until the state approves or denies the liquor license.

The board will meet again on April 21 and likely take up the issue.

A mosque is not a house of worship. It is more like the place to get your islamic propoganda for the day. Most mosques in the US are "radicalized." That is they support and promote terrorism and the over throwing of the US constitution to be replaced by sharia.

A would-be suicide bomber accidentally blew himself up, killing six other militants as he was bidding them farewell to leave for his intended target, the Interior Ministry said.

"The terrorist was on his way to his destination and saying good-bye to his associates and then his suicide vest exploded," a statement from the ministry said....

UN passes resolution calling for criminalization of criticism of Islam

And that includes, of course, any honest examination of how jihadists use Islamic texts and teachings to make recruits. So not only does this herald the death of free speech, but it also leaves us mute and defenseless before the advancing global jihad.

GENEVA (AP) — The U.N.'s top human-rights body approved a proposal backed by Muslims [sic] nations Thursday urging the passage of laws around the world protecting religion from criticism.

The proposal by Pakistan had drawn strong criticism from free-speech campaigners and liberal democracies.

A simple majority of 23 members of the 47-nation Human Rights Council voted in favor of the resolution. Eleven mostly Western nations opposed it and 13 countries abstained.

Cowards.

The resolution urges states to provide "protection against acts of hatred, discrimination, intimidation and coercion resulting from defamation of religions and incitement to religious hatred in general."

It sounds good until you realize that "incitement to religious hatred" includes such acts as quoting the Qur'an passages that jihadists use to recruit and motivate terrorists.

"It is individuals who have rights and not religions," said Canadian diplomat Terry Cormier. Canada's criticism was echoed by European Union countries, all of which voted against the proposal.

That's good, and unexpected.

The council is dominated by Muslim and African countries. Muslim nations have argued that religions, in particular Islam, must be shielded from criticism in the media and other areas of public life. They cited cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad as an example of unacceptable free speech.

"Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism," the resolution said.

By Muslims. By Islamic jihadists. But it is not they who are targeted by this initiative.

A coalition of more than 100 secular and faith groups had called on governments to oppose the resolution, warning that it could lead to accusations of defamation among different faiths.

The United States did not vote on the resolution because it is not a member of the council. The Bush administration announced it was virtually giving up on the body and would participate in debates only if absolutely necessary because of the council's anti-Israel statements and its failure to act on abuses in Sudan and elsewhere.

That will doubtess be reversed soon.

India, which normally votes along with the council's majority of developing nations, abstained in protest at the fact that Islam was the only religion specifically named as deserving protection.

India's Ambassador Gopinathan Achamkulangare said the resolution "inappropriately" linked religious criticism to racism.

I am sick of muslims crying racism when someone is talking about islam. It is a religion, not a race. It is going to be interesting to see how the US is going to work with this since we now have a muslim in the white house.

Muslim "Reformist": Muslim countries must have nukes in order to "strike terror in the hearts of the enemies"

Al-Qaradawi has been praised by establishment dhimmi Islamic scholar John Esposito as a champion of a "reformist interpretation of Islam and its relationship to democracy, pluralism and human rights." He counts among his friends Ken Livingstone, former mayor of London. And he wants to kill Jews in the worst way.

Here he also reveals himself to be a Misunderstander of Islam, since he invokes Qur'an 8:60 as if it were relevant to the modern world, when any Islamic apologist in the West will tell you that only greasy Islamophobes think that that verse has anything to do with anything beyond the lifetime of Muhammad. I trust that Honest Ibe Hooper of CAIR, as soon as he has completed his mission in Pakistan, will be winging his way to Qatar to explain to Qaradawi how to read the Qur'an in context.

Sheik Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi: The Prophet Muhammad wanted peace that is based on strength. He does not want the peace of the weak, the peace of those who disappoint, the peace of those who surrender – like the peace Israel wants to impose on us and the Palestinians. That is not peace. That is what Allah meant when he said: "And do not falter and cry for peace when you have the upper hand, for Allah is with you, and will not refrain from [rewarding] you for your actions." Peace that is based on delusion and submission is not peace. The Prophet Muhammad wanted peace that is based on strength. Therefore, the Koran referred to this, saying: "Prepare against them what force and steeds of war you can, to strike terror in the hearts of the enemies of Allah and of your own enemies, and others besides them, whom you do not know, but Allah knows." "Prepare against them what force and steeds of war you can."

That's Qur'an 8:60.

A few days ago, a Muslim asked me if we were allowed to possess WMDs – nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. I said to him: "Yes, we must possess such weapons, but not use them." We must possess such weapons in order to strike terror in our enemies – "Strike terror in the hearts of the enemies," and frighten them. If we had nuclear weapons, they would be afraid to attack us, as was the case between the Soviet Union and the Americans, and between India and Pakistan. This is armed peace.

We must acquire [military] strength. "Prepare against them what force and steeds of war you can, to strike terror in the hearts of the enemies of Allah and of your own enemies." The "steeds of war" of our times are tanks, armored vehicles, and submarines. These are the steeds of our times. It is not enough to equip ourselves with horses in order to confront tanks. Horses can only be used for certain things. Each generation must prepare its own devices with which to strike terror in the enemies of Allah. We do not want to attack anybody, but to strike fear in our enemies, so that they will not attack us.

3. The myth: “The Quran is the preserved word of Allah”

The fact: even during Mohammed’s time the Quran had undergone many changes.

This myth is based on the false assumption that the early Arabs had extraordinary memory, which is a myth in itself. The Quran was released over twenty-three years, most of it in Mecca with no scribes or facilities to write it. Even after Mohammed seized control of Medina, the Quran was not recorded in a systematic way. The Arabic script was still undeveloped, many letters and words shared the same appearance even though they had different meanings. Mohammed’s priority was not to write the Quran but to fight wars and subjugate the Arab tribes. Many ahadith indicate that Mohammed forgot some verses while others indicate that other verses (like the adultery verses) disappeared because they were eaten by a chicken or a goat!

The Quran reached us through history; Muslims who believe the above myth do so because they put their full trust in the Islamic history. I am afraid that it is the same Islamic history that casts doubts about the preservation of the Quran. An objective reading of the chapters about the collection of the Quran from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, considered by Muslims most authentic books after the Quran, highlights the unreliability of the collection process. The Islamic history also tells us that Muslims were divided after Caliph Othman ordered the writing of the four official copies of the Quran. Some of top Muslims disagreed on which verses to include in those copies. In addition, there were mistakes in those official copies, which were reported to the Caliph, who accepted their existence but did not think they were significant enough to justify rewriting the Quran.

Othman’s copies were also written in a primitive script that only works as a reminder of the Quran rather than a true writing. Such undeveloped script was useless in preserving any message, never mind a legal book. It took another hundred years for the Arabic language to develop a reliable writing style.

Even if we assume that Othman’s Quran was accurate, which it wasn’t, they were useless to most Muslims simply because they had no access to them. The fact is that Muslims, in the first few centuries of Islam, managed without a clearly written Quran. The early copies of the collected Quran seem to have disappeared from history without any trace. Today’s Muslims are very sensitive to this issue and do not allow any objective study of this part of the Islamic history. A proper dating and analysis of the two ancient copies found in Samarkand and Istanbul is strictly guarded by the Islamic authorities. The German team (2) who was studying the copy found in Sana’a, Yemen in the 1970s was stopped and denied access to the script once the authorities sensed that the study could reveal a different Quran!

The story of Abdulla Ibn Abi Al Sarh (3) is of remarkable significance to the issue of preservation of the Quran. Ibn Abi Al Sarh used to scribe the Quran for Mohammed. As all Muslims know, most of the verses in the Quran have common closing sentences such as aziz hakim ( mighty and wise) and aleem hakim( meaning with knowledge and wisdom) and many more.

Once, Ibn Abi AlSarh wrote a verse that had one of those closing sentences, say aziz hakeem, but to make sure it wasn’t aleem hakim, he asked Mohammed: was it aleem hakim? Mohammed said: yes, it was. This was repeated many times until Abdulla Ibn Abi AlSarh came to the conclusion that Mohammed was a liar and the Quran was not divine because he could change its words. Ibn Abi AlSarh left Islam and secretly made his way to Mecca where he told the Arabs about his experience. The scandal was embarrassing to Mohammed who vowed to kill Ibn Abi AlSarh no matter what happens.

After Mohammed conquered Mecca, Ibn Abi AlSarh, who also was a milk brother to Othman Ibn Affan, the main financier of Mohammed’s movement, was captured and was brought to Mohammed. Othman used his influence on Mohammed and asked for his brother to be forgiven. Mohammed, surprised by Othman’s interference, masked his anger and said nothing while Othman quickly took his brother and went away.

Mohammed was angry with his men because they did not kill Ibn Abi AlSarh, their excuse was that Mohammed did not give them a signal. Mohammed said: We prophets do not deal with signals. After Mohammed’s death, Al Sarh had a successful political career under the Umayyad dynasty.

We do not know how much Ibn Abi AlSarh changed in the Quran before his defection, but we do know that those early Muslims especially under the Umayyad rule were aware that Islam was a big lie, which they used to their advantage.

Jailed for 10 years, the Muslim pilot who paused to pray before taking emergency action in plane crash that killed 16

A Muslim pilot and co-pilot who paused to pray before taking emergency measures as they ditched a passenger plane in the sea, killing 16 people, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail.
Pilot Chafik Gharby and co-pilot Ali Kebaier were convicted of taking inadequate emergency measures by an Italian court.

The 2005 crash at sea off Sicily left survivors swimming for their lives, some clinging to a piece of the fuselage that remained floating after the ATR turbo-prop aircraft splintered upon impact.

There were 34 holidaymakers and five crew on board the plane when it went down.

A fuel-gauge malfunction was partly to blame, with technicians putting the wrong type of gauge on the plane before it took off.

It meant the pilot and crew believed they had more fuel than they actually did. The plane's engines cut out simultaneously when the fuel ran out.

However prosecutors also said the pilot succumbed to panic, praying out loud instead of following emergency procedures.

They claimed he then opted to crash-land the plane instead trying to reach a nearby airport.

'This was an unprecedented sentence but we have always maintained that it was an unprecedented incident,' observed Niky Persico, a lawyer for one of the victims.

'Never before in the history of aviation disasters has there been such a chain of events and counter events,' he added.

Another five employees of Tuninter, a subsidiary of Tunisair, were sentenced to between eight and nine years in jail by the court, in a verdict handed down yesterday.

The seven accused, who were not in court, will not spend time in jail until the appeals process has been exhausted.

So it was more important to pray than it was to try to save the plane. They were going to take out a bunch of infidels and they were praying to get into paradise.

It's not a War On Terror, it's an "Overseas Contingency Operation"

And it certainly isn't a defense action against the global jihad and Islamic supremacism.

Well, after sputtering and coughing for many years, the War On Terror appears to be finally over. It was always a silly thing, a war on a tactic of the enemy rather than on the enemy as such, but as we all know, the Global Jihad is The Enemy Who Cannot Be Named.

And so now we are engaged in a great Overseas Contingency Operation, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. And be assured: if the Overseas Contingency Operatives succeed in pulling off another Contingency Operation on American soil on the scale of 9/11, or more than one, we will indeed be sorely tested -- and utterly unprepared to meet the multifaceted cultural, military, political, and spiritual challenge the enemy presents.

The end of the Global War on Terror -- or at least the use of that phrase -- has been codified at the Pentagon. Reports that the phrase was being retired have been circulating for some time amongst senior administration officials, and this morning speechwriters and other staff were notified via this e-mail to use "Overseas Contingency Operation" instead.

"Recently, in a LtGen [John] Bergman, USMC, statement for the 25 March [congressional] hearing, OMB required that the following change be made before going to the Hill," Dave Riedel, of the Office of Security Review, wrote in an e-mail.

"OMB says: 'This Administration prefers to avoid using the term "Long War" or "Global War on Terror" [GWOT]. Please use "Overseas Contingency Operation.'"

Riedel asked recipients to "Please pass on to your speech writers and try to catch this change before the statements make it to OMB."

Not everyone thinks this is official, however:

An OMB spokesman took issue with the interpretation of OMB's wishes. "There was no memo, no guidance," said Kenneth Baer. "This is the opinion of a career civil servant."

Referring to the phrase "global war on terror," Baer said, "I have no reason to believe that would be stricken" from Hill testimony.

Bush officials tried to end the War On Terror years ago:

By way of history, senior Bush administration officials several years ago wanted to stop using the phrase and switch to something many felt might better reflect the realities of the fight against international terrorism.

One leading option was to change the name to GSAVE, or Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism. This was not as catchy an acronym as GWOT, but officials felt it more accurately described the battle.Then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld even used the GSAVE abbreviation publicly.

But, in a White House meeting, President Bush ruled that it was still a war for him, and Rumsfeld and everyone else went back to GWOT.

We are getting more and more PC. I can't wait until we get hit again. This time on a democrats watch. Let's see what the chosen one will do.

Substantial percentage of Turkish population "support" honor killings

A study titled "Honor Killings in the Media and Their Impact on Students and Parents" conducted by the Ministry of Education has revealed that parents believe the media play a role in increasing the number of honor killings.

The study was conducted in the provinces where the most honor killings in the country were taking place and covered the responses of 440 high school students and their parents. According to the report released by the ministry, 13 percent of the parents and 9.9 percent of students had witnessed an honor killing. The provinces of Batman, Diyarbak, and Mardin lead in the number of killings, the report indicated.

Based on the responses of students and their families, the media play a negative role in regard to honor killings. Whereas only 7.3 percent of the parents and 8.7 percent of the students said the media have a positive effect in preventing honor killings, 22.7 percent and 29 percent of them, respectively, think that the media play a role in increasing the number of honor killings. The respondents did not find the programs aired or the stories printed by media to be impartial or close to reality.

On the other hand, the study also showed that 26.2 percent of the parents and 25.9 percent of the students said they support such killings, although 64 percent of all respondents said those who committed such a crime should be punished...

About ten percent of the population has witnessed an honor killings and a quarter of the population believe that honor killings are OK? How many non-muslims believe this way? Probably none. So why are we supposed to believe that islam has nothing to do with honor killings?

Al-Qaeda calls on Sudanese president to "take the path of Islam and jihad"

After pointing out that Khartoum's taqiyya -- in the guise of "political maneouvres, diplomatic ruses and international smooth-talking" -- has failed, Zawahiri insists the only alternative now is for the people to wage a full-blown jihad against "the contemporary crusade [that] has bared its fangs at you."

DUBAI (AFP) — Al-Qaeda number two Ayman Zawahiri urged the people of Sudan to prepare for guerrilla war and for President Omar al-Beshir to "repent," in an Internet video message released on Tuesday.

Zawahiri said Beshir's regime is "reaping what it sowed," in reference to the International Criminal Court arrest warrant against the veteran Sudanese president this month on charges of war crimes over the conflict in Darfur.

"So will the Beshir regime take the path of Islam and jihad and abandon the political maneouvres, diplomatic ruses and international smooth-talking, which has not -- and will not -- bring anything other than disasters and tragedies?" Zawahiri said in the message, according to the US-based SITE Intelligence Group.

Beshir, the first sitting president to be hit with an ICC warrant, faces five counts of crimes against humanity and two of war crimes over the six-year conflict in Darfur.

The Egyptian-born Zawahiri called on the Sudanese people to "make preparations... for a long guerrilla war, for the contemporary crusade has bared its fangs at you."

"The Sudanese regime is too weak to defend the Sudan, so you must do what was done by your brothers in Iraq and Somalia, who defended their countries when the official regimes were powerless to do that."

The United Nations says 300,000 people have died and an estimated 2.7 million have fled their homes during the war between Darfur's ethnic minority rebels and the Arab-dominated government in Khartoum.

To which Khartoum offers more shameless taqiyya:

Sudan puts the death toll at 10,000.

Again it is the arab muslims killing the black muslims and no one seems to be saying anything in the UN. But they are concerned that Israel may have used white phosphorous in Gaza.
